Can Inhave a table water cracker?

Recommended Posts

I am starting purée on Thursday. One of the things on my list I can have is potted meat, which I liked growing up as a kid. But I always ate them with crackers. I will be 2 weeks out from surgery. How bad is it to eat 2 table Water crackers with my 2 allotted tablespoons if I chew it really really well?

I was cleared for regular foods at 1 week with the exception of grains. I'm not sure what a Water cracker is unless its like a saltine? My dr wants me to stay away from carbs til 6 months. Depends on what your dr wants.

I am two weeks out today and started "soft solids" which is the stage that does allow easily dissolvable "breads" such as saltine crackers. (For me, that is, all doctors are different.)

I had two saltines with about 1 t of light cream cheese on each and then two smoked oysters on each. Went down easier than my salmon filet did! Just chew it up and it turns into mush. Was really tasty.

It's like a saltine only smaller with no salt.

Shhhhhhhh don't tell.... I couldn't choke down the puréed foods, (the texture was making me gag) so I just ate softer foods and chewed really really well (I know it all ended up being the same texture in the end, but it made me feel better in my mind haha) . I healed really well and had no issues. Just be really careful with it! =) good luck!

Just chew really well. Anything will turn to mushy puree if you chew it long enough:)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
