too many calories, but not too much food

Recommended Posts

I am about 5 weeks post op and I am still stalled. I am following my dr and NUT program of what to eat at this point.

I am finding that my calories are going higher than I want (about 1000 or so). I eat fish and chicken most night. I have cottage cheese every day since it is the most settled food in my belly. I also have milk every night. I know my calories are high because of my dairy, but I can't give up my dairy. I actually crave dairy like some people crave sweets.

Does anybody have any suggestions to help break my stall?

Also I have been trying to walk every day. I had complications after surgery so I am not up to going to the gym yet, but I go to the mall and walk for at least a half hour almost every day.

Getting frustrated... :(

Just keep going. Stalls are normal. And they do pass. Just keep with what they recommend and get a little more exercise to shake things up. Your body is a wonderful machine that always adjusts to preserve itself and right now we have all put it into a tailspin. So stalls are just your body readjusting and it will get used to the current situation and eventually get comfortable enough again to let go of the fat. :)

Can't give up dairy or won't give up dairy?

As long as it's lowfat dairy!

I do a few swaps to low fat where I won't miss it like yogurt, sour cream, and cottage cheese. Cheese however has to have some fat, nonfat tastes like rubber!

It is reduced fat milk and 1% cottage cheese.

I suppose I WONT give up my dairy. I was told it is good for us to get the Protein and the Calcium, so for me the dairy seems like a win win... I LOVE it and I want it to love me too! :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
