Working 3rd shift and Pre-op diet how does that work?

Recommended Posts

Started my pre-op diet and working 3rd shift now. Do i have my shakes overnight if i had them during the day?? My pre-op diets is 4 shakes a day, 8-8oz glasses of Water or sugar free fruit2o, 1 meal with 4 oz Protein and green veggies daily. I am wondering if anyone else has had to do this while working overnights. And how it worked out for them??

I work 3rd shift 7p-7a... Life of a nightshifters... :) I do my shakes at night just I would during the day on my days off. I stick to the same times I simply do them in the middle of ye night.

Thanks guys!! I am just going from 1st into 3rd and my schedule is awkward right now.... So I had my shakes all day then had to work a night shift just did not want to over do it. Half of my preop diet will be days and half overnights. You know... To make things 10 times harder for myself lol. Changing shifts right before surgery sucks!!

Once you get used to being a night time mushroom you'll be fine. Instead of using the Breakfast, lunch, dinner and Snacks food logs I break mine out to Midnight to 6am, 6am to Noon, Noon to 6pm and 6pm to Midnight. It's much easier for me than trying to figure out what should be dinner and what should be breakfast and is a shake a snack or a meal? lol I'm with BusyBeingMe - I keep (almost) the same schedule when I'm working and when I have days off. It has really made working nights a lot easier for me. I've been working nights almost all of my adult life though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
