Everyone has a different threshold for pain and I think mine is fairly high. That being said, I was sleeved February 4, 2013 and had a hiatal hernia repaired during that surgery. Because of the meds administered in the hospital, I was ok the day of the surgery and the day after. I could feel the pain and movement was a little tough, but I did move/walk a good amount without any assistance at all once I got out of recovery.

Day two post op, I was back home and self medicating with the prescribed liquid narcotic. It was prescribed for use every 6 hours and I only took it every 8 hours. Day three, I took it every 6 hours. This was my worst pain day. Day four, extra-strength Tylenol was all I needed. I had surgery on a Monday and I stopped taking Rx and OTC pain medication the following Friday and was back at work the following week on Tuesday.

Again, everyone will have a different experience, but that was mine.

I have to admit for me the pain was very bad when I woke up in recovery and the pain med they were giving me did not touch it. I thought this operation would be minimal pain because they say your stomach will feel no pain and the 5 little incisions would not hurt that bad. But he had to go thru very old scar tissue that was very thick. That was the place they pulled the stomach out of. My surgery lasted an extra 15 min because of this. I was given a choice to stay another day in hospital and I did. I am glad I did because I was getting around a lot better the second day.

You may be one of the lucky ones that has no pain. Every surgery is different. That is all a distant memory to me now. I would still do it again. Worth it.

I'm also worried about this: getting sleeved may 21st, I had my appendix rupture last summer and it was awful and month later my gallbladder, gallbladder to me wasn't near as bad as appendix. So I continuously trying figure out just how bad the sleeve is going to be compared to those!

I just had the sleeve done this past tuesday. The pain I am experriencing is the gas pain. I do have incisional pain but that is nothing compared to the gas. It has been very difficult for me to get in enough Fluid and Protein in but I do the best I can. They say it gets better so this is what I focus on. Good luck.

Hey I got my sleeve on Tuesday the thirtieth...I was so nervous but after when I was in recovery they gave me nausea meds and pain meds so I was not in pain at all so for a few hours went so fast... When I got to my room I took the medicine they gave me couldn't drink anything which was not as bad as I thought because I didn't even want to drink... The next day Wednesday I left with some liquid Percocet and I take that and do a lot of walking... The pain is also not like I expected the gas pain does hurt but t is not a constant pain and my back and stomach is just really sore nothing major.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
