Mom not handling this well

Recommended Posts

I have surgery in the morning and my mom is a nervous wreck!! I started not to tell her at all because my niece is very bad off from a gastric bypass and in her head they are one in the same.

I know what I'm doing is best for me but I feel so bad putting her thru this. She has had everyone in our family calling me trying to talk me out of it. I know she just wants me to be ok but this is stressing me OUT!! I can't wait til morning!

My mom is the same way but I had to educate her and let her know my decision was for me and my health and I loved her but she had to respect my decisions.

It is really hard being a mom and seeing our beautiful daughter go through this process especially when another member in the family is struggling with the gastric bypass......You will do fine and she will recover quickly.....Hugs to you and can't wait for you to join me on the big losers bench........... :P

Yes I did too. Printed out articles explaining the difference and so on. And shes a nurse so she fully comprehends it. But she's just not with it! I know she'll be ok but to see her cry tonite truly broke my heart.

I'm having somewhat of the same issue. I'm sorry you are going through this. The only advice I can give that has seemed to be working for me is to tell the people in your life (mom included) that you love them and welcome their support however if they have nothing positive or helpful to say to please support you with presence and not words. Negativity breeds stress and stress is unhealthy before and after any surgery. Best of luck to you!

I feel bad for both of you. It has to be hard for her to see her baby doing something she believes is dangerous, yet you know the statics. You'll just have to push through and let her know after surgery that your doing great and she worried for nothing. Good luck on your surgery and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

You have come too far to give up. Dont let others talk you out of it..Be strong. Say a prayer for peace, and Put God in Control..then relax and let the best thing happen for the rest of your life!!

Awwwww... I'm so sorry. Your poor mom! My mom didn't care for it either. That's why I didn't tell her until

it was done. She would have been worried too.

Just hang in there and have faith. Your mom will be 100% better once you wake up from surgery and give her a

pretty smile:)

That's just what moms do. But my heart goes out to both of you and good luck tomorrow!

Well be strong she will still love you in the end and that's all that matters. Sending prayers up for you and a speedy recovering and prayers your mom will be more understanding and supportive.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
