Ok... I have never really experienced "reflux"... I'm 1 day post op and occasionally when I burp a little "bile" comes up... Is that normal!?

Yes, and it is most likely reflux. If your dr didn't advise you to take a PPO(Prilosec, Nexium) you should probably ask them about it. I personally had to take Prilosec for the first 3 months till my stomach acids had adjusted and settled appropriately. Prilosec is available over the counter and is not very expensive, but you still should ask your dr. since there opinions on things can vary. Good Luck.

Thank you. I picked up some chewable acid reducer and I'm hoping my Calcium will help. I notice its worse when I first wake up and haven't drank in a while.

Yes. I also took a ppi post op for 3 months as well. Ask your doctor to prescribe something. If you have insurance it will help with the cost, those things can get pricey depending on how much you need to use :)

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
