The key for surviving for me was finding good Protein drinks.....the kind made for bariatric patients, not athletes (and not slimfast or off the shelf stuff). The good powders (Matrix, IDS, Nectar) can be made into good Hot Drinks and cold drinks and shakes. They satisfy, give you energy, and meet the liquid requirements. They, along with broth and the usual liquid diet stuff, work well together. You can do it!!

Hi

I just wondered if you could tell me what the pre-op diet is? ... I'm having my consultation on the 22nd December in London, UK and I haven't been told about this yet ... is there a diet sheet that you could post for me?

Many thanks

Di x:) :)

This is excellent information, i too have to do a 2 week Optifast diet and am totally dreading it. But hearing that it will get me used to not being hungry post op is a good motivator. I ma definately going to give it my all and try not to cheat. Good luck to all you pre-op dieters!

Has anyone been banded that did not do the pre-opt diet? My doctor didn't tell me anything about the pre-opt diet.

I did the pre-op diet, but it seems to be a 50/50 thing. There are lots of doctors that do not require any kind of pre-op diets. ~Mandy

From what I hear the first 3 days are the hardest. I found that to be true when I tried Medifast just to lose weight- at least with that I was allowed a light dinner meal each day. The craving really did lessen by day four. Just drink, drink, drink to keep your stomach full. That and suck on s/f hard candies to help satisfy your sweet tooth if you have one!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
