Recommended Posts

I am new bandster (11/14). Supposed to get first fill on 12/20. Is 4 weeks a normal timeframe post-op to get a new fill? What has been others experience?

I got mine at 6 weeks. At that point, they said I was healed up enough.

It's amazing to me how much instructions differ Dr to Dr.

And congrats on your band!

I got my first fill at 2.5 months...but inbetween the op and this first fill, I moved countries and it took awhile to find a dr in my new home that would be able to do it...

I didn't have my first fill for about 2 months. I was losing weight at 4 weeks and i still felt restricted so there was really no need for a fill. My doctor does the fills only when I am not losing weight or I don't feel restricted anymore. I was banded on 9/05/06 and have 2 fills now because my first fill a couple of weeks ago wasn't enough so I went back in for an adjustment. Now I have 2cc's in and I feel more restricted. I wouldn't rush a fill if you don't think you need it yet. Everyone is different. Just listen to your body. Good Luck

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
