Dr. C. Question, please:)

Recommended Posts

Hi Dr. C.,

I have had my Lapband since 7-05. I have been told that I have a "dynamic slip"---I've been unfilled twice, and it appears on flouro that my pouch is normal when unfilled. I can get a fill after waiting a few weeks, then without warning or any vomitting, I have reflux, trouble with liquids, i.e.

Anyway, since 7-06, I have been unfilled. I still have some restriction, so I have not wanted to get a fill and tempt fate. I recently had a cat scan-2nd to abd. pain. Everything looks OK, EXCEPT that I have some ovarian cysts, AND the cat scan also noted "moderate gastric dilation". "The stomach is moderately dilated."

I'm assuming this means the part of my stomach that is above the band. I have some restriction. I don't think I've lost weight since my unfill in 7-06, but I don't think I've gained, either. Is this gastric dilation something to be concerned about--is this bad for long term? Should I get my band removed? I don't want long term esophagus problems. My GI doc who ordered the cat scan does not know much about the band. FYI--I also had an endoscopy which was normal, last month.

Your advice, please. Thank you--Jigglypuff:help:

Hi jiggly puff

Sorry I don't have advice...dont know much about dynamic slips but I just wanted to say...I feel for you..and I hope everything sortes itself out for you...don't worry about not loosing any weight at the moment...just concentrate on YOU and getting well...you can get back to the weightloss later...Having said that...dont go overboard on the cream puffs (my nemesis)... eat healthy...go out and exercise...drink water...Have fun! I look forward to hearing of your progress.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
