I don't understand the whole taste-change after surgery thing. This didn't happen to me AT ALL. I am 2 weeks out. Could it still happen? Is it psychological? I just don't get it.

Didn't happen for me either. It's not something everyone experiences.

I think initially our taste changes are due to being in ketosis. later on I think i have just lost my taste for sweets and my dear friend, diet coke.

Hope this helps

Very helpful...thank you so much! I have noticed that some foods just aren't "worth it" to me any more....but this explains a lot. Thanks so much!

Yeah, I did a variation on Atkins once and I definitely experienced taste changes during the induction phase, when you're in ketosis. I plan to be in ketosis at least two weeks before my surgery so that I will have a chance to test and see if my choices for Protein Shakes will need to change for the short term while I still have time to order up a new round of samples if needed.

Thanks - I may not have been sleeved yet, but like many of us, I sure do have plenty of experience with diets, and it's coming in handy!

Yes! My loooonnngg Hcg diet experience taught me how to exist at social functions without food, so I'm avoiding a lot of those struggles, thankfully. Even better...I can now have a little! I guess everything we've gone through really can be used for good.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
