Nothing I Eat Tastes Good

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 1/21. I have completely lost my taste for food. Nothing really tastes like it did before. The only thing I am enjoying right now is beef Jerky, which is great for the Protein but does have a lot of sodium. Food looks good, but when I eat it, no satisfaction at all. And that includes all types of foods, meat, vegetables, fruits and sweets.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Yes I am experiencing the same issue. As you said I have tried several things and nothing taste as it did before. My husband laughed today and said the doctor must have done something. I thought I was the only one so glad to hear you also are having the same issues. I was sleeved February 27. Looking forward to hearing someone has an answer for us.

I was sleeved in November and I am just now starting to enjoy food again. It is still not like it used to be (which I guess is a good thing) but things are starting to taste better. I went through several months where eating was a complete chore. It is getting better for me. Hope it gets better for you.

I'll look forward to improved taste buds. Seems like an odd response to the surgery.

It all tastes the same for me - but the thrill of anticipation before and excitement during is gone. But then again, so is the guilt and shame afterwards! I'll take it!

I've had some change in tastes.. I really can't stand sweets at all anymore.. I never was big on them to begin with, but I would like ice cream now and then, and soda.. but we stopped soda after my first trip to the NUT almost a year ago.

I still crave (and love) Franks Red Hot and vinegar stuff.. But I find creamed Soups to be too rich now. Minor changes, and good changes too. I think some of it is in our minds.. We did a very drastic thing to our bodies and it might be out sub-conscious steering us away from what made us do it in the first place.. The mind does strange things sometimes..

I used to make this dish that was kielbasa, sour kraut, Sliced onions and bacon all cooked together.. I LOVED it.. I had it one night and shortly after had a really bad kidney stone.. not related obviously, but the pain of the stone made me violently ill.. I thought I was going to die, and was throwing up all over the place uncontrollably and painfully..

A few months later, I made that dish again, and just cooking it started to turn my stomach and I to this day have been unable to eat it.. Obviously now, at a month out from sleeve there way in hell I can eat it.. but you get what I mean.. lol

Gotta agree with this one! There is something about slowing down and actually having to TASTE your food that makes you reevaluate how enjoyable it really is! pancakes just don't taste the same without four layers shoved in your mouth for 2-3 chews, lol

Hate food. Having trouble finding "healthy" stuff that I like and can tolerate. Never ate much Wendy's chili before surgery, but after, that has become a staple. One of the FEW things that go down, don't hurt (on pureed, but told I didnt have to as long as I chewed until the consistency was gone). I like some mashed potatoes and gravy, but those are carbs and fats and dont really want to go down that road again (or Wendys for that matter), but, they taste good to be right now, and I am having trouble getting my calories in, so, I'll take it.

Yes I can't stand the taste of anything anymore. It's like it's not worth eating. Water tastes so bad now. I always have a bad taste in my mouth.

So interesting! I'm 5 days out and always enjoyed my cup of coffee in the morning. I tried it today... Took 3 tiny sips and threw it out. Just doesn't taste the same. This is simply fascinating! ;)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
