4 weeks post OP and i need help!

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm 4 weeks post op...my stomach still feels so small...i can't eat more than 2 bites of anything and then i still sometimes throw up...I'm all for smaller portions and I've lost 30 pounds but WHEN will my stomach stretch enough to actually eat something? At this point, I'm wishing I'd never done this to myself...if i could just eat even a half a normal sized portion of anything I'd be happy...when does this end?

Your stomach is smaller because it is healing and is swollen, at around 6 weeks I am told you will be able to get in about 3-4 oz if you aren't already. I'll be 4 weeks Friday and I can comfortably get in a little over 2 oz. If you seriously can only eat 2 bites I'd call the doc because that seems a bit too small.

Just remember everyone heals at different rates. The swelling in your stomach could take longer to go down. If you're able to get in all your Proteins via liquid, then maybe you just need to supplement your food with liquid proteins until you can eat more. Remember to take tiny bites, not normal ones. I use a baby spoon and started out only eating 1/4 of a baby spoonful in the beginning and gave it plenty of time before taking the next bite. I hope your eating becomes easier for you real soon.

I was sleeved on Dec 3rd my stomach didn't allow me to eat more than 2 bites till feb 11th. I was an extreme case according to my dr but if your able to drink Protein shakes your better off than i was. I felt just like you and started regretting doing it. But i will tell you this when it does heal take it slow. I was so happy to finally be able to eat i had to gauge how much to eat at first. I still can't get in as much as my wife who was sleeved dec 10th and had no problems but i find if i eat a few bites about every 10 min i seem to do ok. It might take me a hour to eat one thing but i find if i eat then drink Water for the next hour i stay full and my metabolism is great right now as i'm down 114lbs since december. It will get better but everyone's body heals at a different pace. Hang in there. If you have an specific questions feel free to send me a message. I would check with your DR though just to make sure there is no obstruction as i did all that and it just took a while to heal.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
