May I ask why everyone is so scared of a catheter?? Is there something I'm missing?

Just curious...

I did not have a catheter but sure wanted one! The first night was awful! I had my surgery at 1:00 p.m. and up until 4:00 a.m. the next morning I was dry heaving so much I would wet the bed! Plus I had to use the bathroom so badly that I couldn't wait for the nurse to come unhook me! If offered, I would gladly accept one!

I have had several over the years for various surgeries/procedures and none of them have ever hurt. Good luck!

Well I could say don't worry... That will be the least of your pain! But I'm feeling nice today!!

Hehe..

I had one.. but the thing is they put it in after I was out and they removed it before I woke up

Easy! No big deal...

I wasnt as concerned about pain because I knew Id have a 'magic button', I was more concerned with urinary tract infections.

My word your young!! Well then you get the extra extra nice me!

It will be fine if you doctors use one its going to be a very minor and quickly removed thing.

Actually I didn't even know I had one until the nurse told me if you don't pee soon then we are putting it back in!

I did. I'm the biggest baby ever. It didn't bother me at all. Except I could feel it when I walked. It didn't hurt though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
