Shesha!

Don't worry, you'll be banded soon!! Hang in there!! I actually could have the salmon too at this point :( It's good Protein and is soft and mushie! I notice I don't have a problem with fish and cheese, but the 'harder' meats like turkey and chicken don't go down as easily for me.

I"m going out on a date tonight (guy knows I've had surgery), so I'm looking forward to some delicious fish for dinner!

Hi Kristin, it sounds like you are doing very well...Congratulations!!!

LOL....Well, it'll be as fun as it always is!! This guy is not ready for a "serious" relationship at this point, so we're dating, but not BF/GF, if that makes any sense!! I figure we'll date til I lose more of my weight and feel more confident about dating..probably bad of me I know, but if he's not ready for something serious, then I"m not gonna push it ya know??

Skye....Let us know when you get your date!! It'll definitely feel more real once you have an actual date!

Marjon, how's the pre-op diet going??

:) I just called & spoke w/Marilyn. I am only now getting my phone consult. I will have that on January 16th!!! I spoke w/Robin yesterday & she told me to call back w/my date & they would let me know if it was available. I thought that was my next step and then and then I would speak w/the nutritionist & have my phone consult.

Oh, well...Hopefully the flight prices will still be good then & I can still have the surgery done by the end of February. Looking back it was I really should have done that in the 1st place. I should have known better.

Hi all, indeed, things are getting close. I have my flights booked, and today I booked the hotel. I took the rooms at the Doubletree on a "non-refundable" basis. Now, is that commitment, or what? Funds have been transferred to the doc. I feel like somebody should be filling the fuel tanks with liquid nitrogen right now in preparation for lift off, or something like that, but I guess I'll have to settle for a cup of Decaf.< /p>

The pre-op diet is going fine, I guess. It seems a little bit too easy so I wonder if I'm doing it right. I don't seem to have much trouble skipping things like bread, Pasta, potatoes, etc. But I know I am still getting some carbs in other things like yogurt and nuts. So I'm wondering if I am still eating too many carbs.

I feel like I'm losing a little weight so far on this low carb diet, but I'm not trying to lose the maximum right now. I'm not starving myself. Mainly I'm just trying to stay low carb. I do feel compassion for those who need to go extended liquid diets on the pre-op. That would be hard.

At work I've told no one but my direct supervisor. Everyone else will just know that I'm gone, probably assume on vacation. I'm glad I've kept it to myself for now. If I start to lose weight and people ask me about it, I'll tell them. But I don't want people checking me out for the first month when losing can be slow. I'm not sure what to expect, but people do say that the first six weeks are for healing, not losing weight, so who knows how it will go.

All of you who are feeling impatient, I can just say that I felt the same way, and the time does pass. Now it's getting a little too close, if you ask me. I'm getting a little nervous. I watched the lap band operation on the Discovery Channel the other day. They had a special. It's not that serious but it's not nothing. It's a bit more than, say, getting your teeth cleaned. I mean, they stick metal rods inside you, and all that, and, like, move your liver around, and that sort of thing. Let's just say I don't think of lap band surgery as a recreational activity.

So, that's the latest. I'm at "T-minus 12 days" before lift off. My space suit is on and I'm waiting for the weather to clear over central Florida, if you see what I mean.

LOL...Marjon...I love your "lift off" analogy! :) It's perfect!!

I didn't tell anyone but a few friends and immediate family for the same reasons as you....I don't want people "inspecting" me and my food habits!! Even tonight, when I went out on a date and ate way more than I should have (Definitely time for a fill!).....I felt almost guilty, b/c even though I was eating fish (protein) and veggies.....I know it was more than 1/4 cup worth and it just felt so indulgent, but I also felt like my friend was wondering how the hell can she eat all that? I Dunno..maybe I'm just paranoid!

Skye...I had my phone consult before I booked my date and flight and all that....so don't worry, you'll be fine! It'll all work out! If you have any questions, let me know and I'd be happy to answer them!

Shesha, so you are just 10 days to pre-op. That's not far behind at all. The days will fly. We'll all be bansters soon!

Yes, I am sure they will fly by. I just wish it was over already, so I can stop worrying and start losing. So many things to think about, travel, the flight, the anesthesia, the pain, the gas, the constipation!!!! ugh. Thank goodness I am already on anti-anxiety meds. :biggrin1:

Shesha...Just think about how GREAT you're gonna look when you get to goal!!! :) That'll make all the other things pale in comparison!

Yes, that's true! I am just having flashbacks to how bad I felt physically after having my baby... 2 hours of pushing, combined with all the meds, was NOT good for the backside. I am sooo scared of getting constipated and having painful poopies!! Sorry for being so graphic, but seriously, that is what I am most afraid of!! Hopefully I can get enough Fiber in me to not worry.:cry

Shesha...Just think about how GREAT you're gonna look when you get to goal!!! That'll make all the other things pale in comparison!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
