Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

LOL! As soon as she's awake I'm sending her. This gas pain thing sucks.

My whole body hurts this morning (yes I'm awake way too early) but my body hurts because I'm sleeping in a slightly sitting position on my back and I can't move at all. Not even on my side with a pillow, and I'm used to sleeping on my side.

How long do I have to sleep like this??? :)

Hmmm, I can't remember when I could finally sleep on my side. It was a few days at least. You're planning on sleeping in a recliner at home, yes? That should help.

Make sure you keep up on your pain meds. Take it every 4 hours or whatever it is even if you don't think you need it right then. That will help keep you more comfortable.

These next few days will not be all that fun, but trust me, it's worth it! And in a few weeks you'll be better than new!

Good Morning Sweetpea!

Our newest Bandito!

Did your Mom get you some Gas-X strips? I wish I had given you mine. I have an entire box that I never used. I didn't have any gas pains, but I had the worst port pain!

I had a very hard time sleeping because I'm a tummy sleeper. I had to sleep for about 4 days on the sofa, sitting up with 4 pillows. I would take my pain med and go to the sofa. My daughter insisted on sleeping downstairs if I needed her. She said sometimes I'd wake in the middle of the night and cry out. I don't remember that, but she said it scared her. Poor child!

The worst day was the third. After that it got much much better!

Did you guys get your Antibiotics? Your refrigerator? Mini is right about the pain meds, stay on top of it. Don't allow time to lapse between doses. You want to get to a "steady state" and stay there.

I have to tell you, I allowed myself regular popsicles and Jello. I felt I was hardly eating anything, I was entitled to a regular popsicle - esp. since I could only eat half of one at a time.

Once I ate an entire popsicle (both halves) and I thought I was going to explode! Bizarre, huh?

When I got to full liquids, I drank V-8 Low Sodium a lot because I was sick of the sweet stuff. Did you get some Isopure - clear Protein Drinks? I could drop some off after I get my fill. I'll just come up to Parker from his office.

One thing I did add to the Isopures was some Splenda Cranjuice. I was pre- diabetic, so I figured I shouldn't push the full sugar juices. A splash of Splenda Cranjuice with the Isopure over crushed ice tasted good to me. BUT Munchkin hates those drinks. It's totally a personal choice.

I don't mind bringing you a couple to try so you don't have to buy any.

If your new friend who was just banded wants to come to meet us, she is more than welcome and your mom and her daughter!!! Deb, Nora and I will be doing soup!

THANKS everyone for the thoughts and prayers. Still feeling fabulous. I'm so proud of myself - I haven't cried once! After a week of crying at the drop of a hat, for some reason I have managed to hold it together all day. Honestly, the only thing right now that bothers me is my nasal passages being extremely dry from the anesthesia tube.

Congratz on getting your band!!!! I totally did the super emotional thing too. I was crying all the time!! It evens out a bit. I am praying for you!!

Ladies who flew home, how did you get your big bottle of pain medicine on the plane? What kinda proof do I need? Also, the refrigerated antibiotics he gave me...same question, how do I get them on the plane with me? Since those have to be refrigerated, I can probably give them to the stewardesses to put in the fridge, but I'm really just worried about getting my liquid meds on the plane. Help!! :rolleyes2:

This is too funny not to share. I hope I don't offend!!

If you've just had a lap band put in, and you feel that you have to fart - go sit on the toilet!! Don't just sit there in the bed and think it will be a normal fart. Cuz then you'll mess your pants like a 2yr old and your mom will laugh at you! :rolleyes2::tt1::tt2:

Dangit, and I was gonna wear these lounge pants home tomorrow!!!

I put ice in an ice pack and stuck the bottles in there. Then I showed them at the security line. The first person was kind of giving me crap, but then a supervisor came over and said it was no problem at all.

Well, now you just made me cry again. Geez. I have been such a boob the past two days.

Our McNair program coordinator on campus is a 300+ lb African-American man and former Tennessee Titans football player. When I saw him yesterday afternoon he was very reserved about the election and didn't express much optimism or excitement. This morning, however, he sent out an email and said that he had spent this morning crying. He said he hadn't dared to believe that Obama could actually be elected and he hadn't wanted to get his hopes up. He talked about what this means to his nieces and nephews and their view of their place in America. It was awesome.

Yay for Kay Hagen and her "godless" supporters!!

What an emotional time for African-Americans...can't imagine what they feel, the hope that comes with this event!

Hurray for Kay! We heard about those ads out here in Oregon, too; Dole lost it with the anti-Christ approach!

This is too funny not to share. I hope I don't offend!!

Get used to it! With all the liquid you will be taking in for the next few weeks, you will be "gushing" regularly!!!

Wish I could offer advice on sleeping, painkillers, etc., but, fortunately for me, I had no gas pain, no port pain, no sleeping problems after the first 24 hours. But I'm pullin' for you to get through this with the least discomfort possible:thumbup:

welcome to Bandland Jamie, hang in there. I was like Deb, no problems with gas or pain. Stay hydrated and walk. Have a safe trip back home, sorry I didn't get to meet you in person.

I just had my meds in a cup with some ice in it. The people were nice about it. Just keep it out so they can see the meds. I flew out the day after surgery, so I was in a wheelchair and it helped them hurry me through the line.

Oh! and I started sleeping on my side pretty soon. I just used a pillow under my tummy so it didn't stretch and pull on the port.

I just called Delta Airlines and they said I need a note from the doctor stating I had surgery and I need my meds with me on the plane. He said that should suffice and security shouldn't give me a problem. So I'm having Mary at Dr. K's office fax me a note to the hotel. Hopefully that'll fix any problems that may arise.

Mom got me Gas-X, and so far so good. Though I'm only an hour and a half in on the pain meds, so those could be helping the gas as well.

I need to get up and start walking again, but my legs get so tired that it's hard to keep walking. Just how much walking did you ladies do? Like, how long did you walk at a time?

Hi ladies. I know I have been absent for awhile... but I was taking a mental break. Long story short, no restriction for me again. I was concerned I may have a small leak so I went in and told my Dr that. He withdrew all the saline and discovered I was only at 5cc's and not 7cc's. :rolleyes2:

He told me not to worry, he thinks that if I had a leak I wouldn't have maintained the 5cc's, that the pressure would have reduced it to less than 1cc.

Well I am very worried.

He filled me with 3cc's for a total of 8cc's now and I have a follow-up with him next week.

I still do not feel restriction. I feel like I could continue eating and eating, but I don't, I stop myself. I went out to dinner a few nights ago and ordered seafood enchiladas. The dinner came with rice, Beans, and 3 enchiladas. I ate about 1 and a half enchiladas, a spoonful of rice and most of the beans. I felt satisfied, but had NO sign's telling me to stop. I stopped because I knew I should... not because my band told me I had to.

If I was truly filled to 8cc's I don't think I would have been able to eat that much. ???

Lunch today was half of chicken salad sandwich on wheat with a half a snack bag of chips. I am saving the rest for dinner. Normally I would have eaten it all and then some. But again I feel like I am stopping myself... not the band stopping me. Maybe I just haven't pushed it so that is why I haven't gotten any signs???

I am feeling very lost! I am terrified to go in next week to see what else has leaked out.

I had gained all the way back up to 311 as of last week, but am back down to 304 as of today. So at least that is positive. Also I didn't have to use a seatbelt extender on the plane when I flew to WI last weekend... another goal to cross of my list. But honestly I am having a hard time feeling good about that with the possible leak hanging over my head.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
