I just had my second fill. I was banded on 8/24/06 and have lost 25lbs. I had not lost any weight in several weeks so i went for a 2nd fill. I could eat any thing before this fill, though less than before. Every once and a while i would feel some pain as something went down but most of the time i felt ok. Now with my 1st bite i feel a pain, i can feel the food going down Like it has to squeeze down. This pain continues throughout the meal . Its not unbareable but uncomfortable. I feel like i am frowning all during the meal. When i drink i can feel it in my chest, slowly going down. Sometimes it gurgles. It feels like it is in the back of my throat for a little while. This is with every sip. I have to admit that i was able to eat a whole grilled cheese sandwich slowly so I'm asking? do you think this sounds right? Am I to tight . If so ,should i just tough it out untill I lose some and the fill will loosen up. any advise would be helpful ....Thanks

Onlygo...

Sweetie, you should be on liquids for 2-3 days after a fill as OUSooner said...my Dr. is very strict with this.

Also, you aren't drinking liquid with your meals are you? I can have liquids right up to about 20 minutes before i eat......but not for an hour afterwards.

The discomfort that you are feeling may be from eating solids too soon, or it could be from the fill being too tight. It usually loosens up after a few days...hence the liquids. I know when I feel that way..I must STOP eating, or it's going to come back up! And that is not good.

It's a means to regulate your food intake.....if I could have done it on my own...I would not have needed the lapband. I have to learn what works for me or suffer the consequences. We are all different sugar, so what works for one may not work for someone else. Keep us posted, and keep your chin up.

Hugs,

Dreamer

I've never been told to do liquids or mushies after a fill, but of course I do take it cautiously and easily for a few days.

Give it a few days to settle. I always have fantastic restriction and marked lack of appetite for a few days and then it settles down a bit.

Hi! I've experienced what you are too. This sounds normal to me. But I think you need to back off and rethink your eating style. I found whenever I had pain, I was eating too large of a bite and not chewing enough. SLOW DOWN. You have to change your eating methods in order to be successful. Cheers! :speechles

Hey Onlygo

Yep - sounds like you irritated your pouch by eating solids right after a fill. The swelling lasts for 2-3 days on it's own - and longer if you get that scraping feeling as the food goes down.

Most docs say you need to progress back up to solids after a fill. Mine says 1 day liquids, 1 day mushies and then 1 day of soft foods before you try anything truly solid.

then - CHEW - and when you think you have chewed it enough, CHEW SOME MORE. :]

If you are getting "first bite syndrome" then try drinking warm liquid (coffee, tea, broth) right before you eat to loosen everything up.

Hugs!

Hello everyone I did wait things out and they are some better. I kinda got use to the feeling of restriction and am much more careful what and how i eat. I am still learning to take it slow and chew. Also learning what and how much to eat. Some times i still get that pain but not all the time ,so i make note of what and how I am eating when i get it. I did pb one time this week but it is all part of the learning process. Good news is I did lose 2lbs in 6 days so that makes me happy . "On the losing road again" (sung to the tune of Willie Nelsons "ON the raod again" THanks for yalls concern !!!

I have experienced this as well. It is sore because you just had a fill. As crazy as this might sound to you, if you get another small fill in a month or two, you won't feel that "gurgling" when the food goes down. In my opinion the gurgling is happening because the band is tight enough to slow the food down, but not tight enough to hold the food in your pouch and then empty very slowly over the next hour or so, which is what I am understanding is actually supposed to happen. That is just my experience in the past. I know that everyone is different.

Onlygo, isn't it nice to know your band is working, now just remember to work with your band, take it slow and easy.

You are wise to be concerned about being too tight, but I agree with the others, give your esophagus a few days rest and stick with liquids and very soft mushies.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
