Exercise when not getting in fluids?

Recommended Posts

How does this work?

I'm 3.5 weeks out and I really dislike the shape my body is taking on as it loses quickly without exercise! I really want to start a cardio workout (walk at home) but I know from experience that's hat one makes me stop and slam down Water to make it through the second half. I can't do that obviously, so I'm wondering where that leaves me.

Am I stuck doing resistance only until I can get my 48oz? I'm getting about 36 oz fluids. I don't like water anymore (I was a chugger), just started tolerating Protein Drinks, choke down Gatorade. This is my biggest struggle as far as the sleeve is concerned.

Please help, so that I can get my cardio too!?

I started exercising 1 week post op in Feb this year. You can drink Water while exercising, but you won't be able to gulp. I still can't gulp or guzzle 7 weeks out, but I can get in about 2 oz of water at a time while doing my cardio. Good luck!

Sorry Amy I thought those crazy exercise freaks would of answered you by now!

I had a lot of problems in the beginning with this. If I drank Water while I was exercising it would make me nauseous.. I talked to butter about it and he said that in the beginning you just have to do your best to hydrate BEFORE you work out. It does get easier with time though!

I find when I work out my sleeve gets really tight and I can't drink Water till about 15 minutes after I am done. I try my best to get in 16 oz of water before I workout and an 11 oz Protein Drink. I will have another Protein drink after my workout and sip sip sip my water.

That's a good question amy.....not sure what the answer is. If you are having trouble getting in close to the 48 oz, I can see where really long/sweaty cardio can be a problem and possibly cause dehydration. I would maybe still try some cardio, but less intense and short periods building up as your Water intake increases.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
