I'm new here. But I need a little more support than usual. I've been seeing my primary since October '12. I called the office to set up my last appointment, my Dr told me she is not sure if her notes are adequate for my insurance to approve the surgery. After five months of visits at the eleventh hour I'm hit with this.

I am terrified! and I checked my weight today. I gained 9lbs. (Emotional eater, obviously). I called the surgeon's coordinator, she said all documentation needs to be submitted to her in the next 7 days in order to get approval to have a 4/15/13 surgery date.

Any reason she can't go in and elaborate on them?

This is what the doctor does for a living. Why would she not make adequate notes? As far as I know you can always appeal the insurance decision if they deny it and submit more documentation. Physicians can make clarifications to their notes or add documentation. That's an odd thing for the doctor to say.

I wouldn't worry to much those coordinators that work with surgeons know how the insurance companies work and are very good at getting it done and approved! After all they and the surgeon want you to have this done... its their bread and butter so to speak :)

Maybe my nervousness about the surgery is making me feel more about this bump in the road than I normally would.

My great grandmother, grandmother and mother all died from a stroke in their earlier 50's. I'm 37 yrs old, with high blood pressure. I'm 5'10" 289lbs. I have 3 kids. I know the results are a blessing and this is the best and only way I can break the cycle. But I still have mini panic attacks when I think about the specifics of the procedure itself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
