Hi Mac!

Congrats to being so close to goal! How was your expire emcee with UMass? Can you answer a few questions for me? What did they do at your first appt, with surgeon? how long was it about? I have mine July 22nd. How long was it from first appt to surgery? Was it long because of insurance requirement or hospital?

Thanks so much and congrats again! :)

[/quoteHi JenI had a terrific experience with UMass and continue to do so. Dr Czerniach was my surgeon. Absolutely terrific! The surgical appointment was made when the Weight Center submitted my package for insurance approval. My first appointment with him was Nov 18. I met with Robin, the Nurse Practitioner first, then with Dr Czerniach for about 45 minutes each. They talked about the surgery and answered my questions. Have you picked your surgeon?I had BCBS of ILL for insurance. It took about two weeks for approval. While at the Surgical appointment they made additional appointments for an upper GI test at Memorial and a pre surgery physical at the Jaquin Building. My surgery was on 12/23/13 and was about 5 weeks after initial meeting. The post surgery support has also been excellent. I have been attending the post surgery group on the first Thursday of the month and the open discussion group on the fourth Thursday of the month. Both have been very good.I would be happy to answer questions as you think of them. Good Luck?

Had a rough few weeks with vomiting issues and dehydration. I still have issues with most meat items but other than that I'm down 92lbs since my preop diet started January 17th! Still having some dehydration issues as I'm never able to get in all my Water without feeling water logged all the time !!

Had my surgery August 19th and I'm so hungry it's making me crazy. How can I be hungry? All my gas is gone not too much pain going on just starving full liquids is not working out. Am I doing something wrong?

I would bet that the hunger is a head hunger. If you had the sleeve, the physical desire for hunger will be gone foe some time. The part of your stomach that produces gremlin, the hunger hormone, was removed. The stomach will compensate and the sensation will return. It varies for each person how long it will take. I have just begun to feel hungry eight months out from surgery.

I don't know how you are taking Protein and fluids; you might want to try alternating 4 oz of Protein shake and 4 oz of Water on alternating hours all day long.i struggled with Fluid intake right after surgery. It helped me with being on a liquid only diet for four weeks

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
