Off post op restrictions, scared to eat regular!

Recommended Posts

So today I'm off my post op diet. Introduce new foods one at a time, no tough meats, chew chew chew, etc. I thought I would be excited but I had refried Beans for lunch again lol. I have a few questions for you seasoned vets out there. I crave fresh veggies...specifically a cucumber. I hesitated over a seedless English cucumber at the store today. My question is when were you able to tolerate raw veggies? pineapple is my fav too but I'm scared to death of the acidicness and membranes! Also, Protein Bars. How far out did you eat one?

I had surgery in Mexico so I don't have the luxury of a nut...would appreciate you input! :)

Well by my calculations you are about three weeks out. At this point I was only starting pureed foods. If I were you I would stick to soft foods for a little longer. I didn't have raw veggies for months only cooked. Just go slow and be careful. I ate alot of cottage cheese, tuna, soft fish, ground meats, canned meats, cheese strings, yogurt, eggs.< /p>

pineapple I say would be a big no right now, very fibrous and chewy.

I was allowed Protein bars, raw veggies, beef & pork and nuts at 2 months. Refried Beans are still my go to food. I love them and I've eaten a ton!

I know what you mean about craving raw veggies! I wanted a salad soooo bad! I'm 9 weeks out and right after my 2 month appt I went to lunch with my husband and ordered a salad. I don't think there has ever been a better salad or a happier girl! It was so good! :)

I bought chicken fajita meat and Beans from my fav local Mexican place. Shredded the chicken over the Beans, added some cheese and a tiny bit do ff sour cream and mmmm mmmm. Tastes like the chicken fajita nachos I get there but without chips!

I agree with the salad. My parents ate these mouth watering salads the other day with grilled chicken on them and every veggie imaginable. Everytime they eat in front of me they apologize lol.. I just say its ok...I'll get there. But in this instance I just wanted to grab their salads and go hide with them lol. It's the little things I look forward to :)

I was craving fruit yesterday. I ate a few pieces of melon and a piece of pineapple, it all went down fine. I considered it all soft foods since the fruit was ripe. My doc said any food is fine- as tolerated. So far I've tolerated most things. I do follow my Nuts advice though and do not eat hard seeds- berries, tough skins- apples, or membranes- citrus yet. I'm tempted to try salad and am thinking I'll start with butter lettuce since it is so soft. I guess my point is try things slowly but definately try them. Good luck.

don't have the luxury of a nut

TexasMiss

it must be hard not having a NUT to help/advise you

can/do you go to a support group - you can talk to people there

even though you didn't have WLS in a state hospital - i think you could still call your local hospital, and ask them to refer you to a support group, times etc.

worst they can say is no :(

do you know the basic stages???liquids, mush, pureed, soft, solids???

drink Protein shakes

protein is the most important part of the sleeve equation, chew very slowly to "shred", eat slowly, putting utensil down between bites - eat small small bites

also don't drink for 15 minutes before you eat, NEVER drink with your meals, and don't drink after you eat for about 45 minutes - drink as much Water as possible always!!!!! at least 64 oz

most importantly, never, never, ever - talk with your mouth full

if i'm saying stuff you already know, ooooooops sorry :(

otherwise - hoped info helped

there IS a link to a "pamphlet"/book on the board - that gives many instructions, directions, foods to eat et al concerning the sleeve :)

this should somehow be put on the board "frequently asked questions and answers"???? for all newbies and others to read

very informative

that being said.............

i am so sorry but i don't have that link

hope, hope that someone else can put the link of the board :)

that would be great

good luck :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
