Does this happen to anyone else?

Recommended Posts

I am just over 2 weeks out from surgery and for the past 3 or 4 days i get light headed after my first meal of the day. It doesn't matter what i eat, just the first meal of the day, I eat it and a few min later i'm light headed and feeling weak and need to lay down for an hour or so. After that i'm fine, and it doesn't happen with subsequent meals.

Make sure you're getting your fluids and not overheating or eating to fast.

Go get a glood glucose meter and test yourself upon waking, before you eat (even if that is just a half hour or so) and then once you get those feelings, test again. Large high to lows, or reverse can indicate what is causing it, maybe. Even if you are in range, many people will fill a steep drop or high. I would consider a large jump to be 30-40 in either direction.

You may also want to revisit your meds with a pharmacist (not pcc, not surgeon) and let her know what is going on. Some people outgrow their meds, or need adjustments as they go. I am off of everything but an antihistamine, this surgery can really change your body chemistry.

If you were not required to, I really stress you go in and have a full bloodwork panel done. Some people do not get these very often, and then as they progress into the weight loss they cannot determine if profound changes are par for the course, or an indication of a real problem, because they do not have previous tests to compare to.

Most people on here seem to have been told to drink 64 oz of fluids a day. Not to negate what your nutritionist told you, but as an experiment, you could try increasing your fluids to that amount for a few days and see if that solves the problem. Drinking the 64 oz will not hurt you.

I too get light headed, it isn't always in the morning, but fluids do help it.

Are you talking blood pressure meds? I feel the same way and I think I need an adjustment in my medication.

I get light headed and dizzy fairly frequently. It is more frequent when I eat less than 20 carbs a day. I think it is blood sugar issues for me.

Thanks for all the input, i will definatly try out some of these things, especially upping the Water intake. It could also be carb related, as i do'nt think i've really had any in my 2 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
