Oh I wish I had looked into this, I just got a 'look' from an older woman at my belly when I was on my way to the hot tub yesterday after my workout. I don't care what others think, it's a war wound as far as I'm concerned, a wound from my personal battle with weight. I'm just so happy to be in a bikini now I'm not covering up this little bod for anything. But had I known, I would have asked Dr Quinones (my Tijuana surgeon-he teaches many of the other docs over there) about the belly button incision. Good luck with your surgery, you're wise to be asking for this, hopefully they don't ask too much extra for it.

I just live 5 hours away (driving) from San Diego in Phoenix, so we're going to drive over a day or two ahead of time and drop the girls off with my sister or parents, then head down from there.

@Kristina, I'm in Carlsbad about 30 minutes north of downtown...near Legoland :-)

You have had quite a weight loss roller coaster I bet its a relief to find an option that will be more permanent. Maybe i'll schedule surgery around that time and we can hang out. I'm running in the color run on 5/11 and have school the next weekend but might be able to do it on 5/18. LOL

@arthritis_me

Thank you for posting. I'm a size 16 so even though I'm struggling to lose weight permanently I have been wondering if surgery is right for me. As I get older, i just dont want to spend anymore time regretting being overweigh so it was calming to see someone closer to my own situation

@rollargirl

I have been looking online to see if Dr. Garcia has any reviews on the scarless VSG and I don't see anything. I wouldn't want to be his first LOL - where did you see that he performs this? I think it is a better way to go because they don't need to mess with your abdominals which has a longer, harder and more painful recovery. $1000 extra is a lot but might be worth it. I havent even looked into price...what is it approximately for self pays?

@gooddaybetty I was SICK of being over weight, life is too damned short for that. I am also suffering from stage 4 arthritis and infertility, both wrapped up in the weight. I'm doing IVF in April and can't wait. I'm 8 lbs to the 'healthy' weight BMI and feel confident that I can get well below it before IVF comes. With the Ketosis diet I've learned a new way of eating and will never gain this weight back again. I feel it's quite easy to lose now and I'm very motivated to work out / eat well because of the pay off.

Don't let a lower BMI effect your decision, it's how you feel in your skin everyday. There are still health consequences to a higher weight, estrogen dominance which SO few women are aware of until they get breast cancer at 50+. It's because your hormones are locked up in fat, when you're fat you're at WAY more risk of cancer. But overall, do it because you feel this will be a positive step forward and squash the fears of what if-those are self doubt messages that do us no good.

I'm 46 so slowing metabolism etc - I already exercise and eat fairly healthy - just too much I guess LOL I don't eat a lot of processed foods and rarely fast food - cant even remember when the last time was it was so long ago. Okay starbucks...but really...does anyone really count starbucks :D

What is estrogen dominance? :o I'll want to avoid that !!!

Is it just lose the fat and lose the estrogen dominance?

In your GP's annual physical you can ask to have your estrogen/progesterone tested. When women stop ovulating they lose progesterone, when we age our estrogen hikes to try to pump out more eggs anyway and with fat it really hikes high and everything gets bogged down. Google Estrogen dominance, it's terrible. There are different signs of it and sometimes there are no signs.

Susanne Somers used bio identical hormone replacement therapy. If you keep the fat off your estrogen won't hike as high but one of the side effects of estrogen dominance is weight gain :wacko: I take progesterone cream. Progesterone relaxes your muscles, helps you sleep, helps immune function, balances estrogen etc. I recommend a blood test every few years along with your physical just to keep an eye on it. http://www.ehow.com/how_4423839_increase-progesterone-naturally.html

I never thought i'd have to deal with this at 37. :unsure:

So Kristina & Rollargirl - are you both getting the spider VSG?

The more I look into it I think that is the way I would wan to go but i cant find anything anywhere that says Dr. Garcia performs this procedure using the spider surgical method.

@arthritis_me - thanks for the info I have a progesterone cream and I'll be sure to start using it since I do have a symptom or two on the list. :)

Hi ... I'm active w boxing but the age old saying is now a reality to me "you can't out exercise a bad diet" it's really true loosing weight is %80 eating %20 exercise. I used to do 5/6 classes a week and the scale didn't move ... I heard about the spider technique somewhere and asked alma (coordinator) if he did it. She said he's "done like a hundred" I think $1000 is def worth it. I would of been happy w the scars but If it heals faster and less painful - why wouldn't you!!?

I had the single incision VSG through my belly button on 3/5/13. The first week was terrible with pain, but now, 2 1/2 weeks out, I feel fantastic. My incision is healed and looking at me you'd never know I ever had surgery. I'm very glad that my surgeon recommended this option for me. Best of luck everyone!

@gooddaybetty My best friend lived in Carlsbad for years (just off Poinsettia) until she moved to Denver!!! :) I grew up in Carmel Mt Ranch, over by Poway! I visit all the time. My parents still live in that same house, and the rest of my family lives pretty much in Clairemont and Santee!! We'll have to meet on one of my visits out there for sure!!

I am not doing the single incision surgery, as much as I would love that lol because I have had 2 lap bands and the 2nd one is still in. So the doc will be dealing with removing that band and the scar tissue. I want things as smooth a possible and I my stomach already looks like I've been in a knife fight, so I'm not worried about a few more scars! Lol

@rollargirl That's AWESOME!! So exciting!!! :) Can't wait to meet you both!! 50 days till surgery... If I were counting ;) hahaha

      Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

      2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

        I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

        I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
