Congratulations on your band date. I know how excited you must be!

My suggestion is to go on the cruise and on the way back home get your first fill. Everyone reacts differently to the fill process and when they feel restriction; some say over a week for them. So if it were me, I would not like to be out in the middle of the ocean potentially being overfilled or having golfballs and/or PBing.

Best wishes,

Jo Ann

DEFINITELY after....on the way back. You don't want to get your first fill (or any fill for that matter!) and then go away.....if you experience difficulty, you will be out of luck!!

I'd have to say after as well, though for me, I'd have it before.

I say "after" only b/c it will be highly embarrassing to have your first fill and have a burping, gas/pb episode in front of your family and friends. They may or may not know what is going on with you and it would be something to try to explain. Also, who wants Soup the entire cruise right?

The best reason for doing it after, and I'm sure what the rest of us are thinking, is that if for some reason you're the odd person who has crazy restriction after their first fill, you don't want to NOT be able to eat, (even worse, not drink) for the whole trip, and/or have to have some stranger in some foreign country stickin' a needle in your belly, hoping they know what they're doing.

Please absolutely DO NOT get a fill before you go! Take my advice. I did it the day before a trip and my trip was hell because of it. I hated every moment of it all. Please do not do it. Trust me!

Do not get a fill until you come back from this trip!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
