Phone ap died mid post!!!

Anyways, anyone out there with a just over the 40 or at 40 bmi have Kaiser permanente md/va/dc?

The difference between the right bmi of 41.6 & not that is about 4 # for me!!!! That's crazy!!! I got sick & lost 8# in one week. So because I've not yet been weighed for the kaiser weight loss surgery class I've been trying to keep up my " fighting" weight.

Any idea if Kaiser va/md/dc still makes you lose 10% of your body weight or any % really bc if I have to I'm worried I'll be denied.

I'm with kaiser also, but a BMI over 40 was just fine. I know some requirements are different I live in Maryland. We have to do 6 months of nutrition appointments and classes get approval ( which I got in February 2013 ) and it takes another 6 plus months before surgery. I'm into my 2 nd month of waiting for a surgery date. I have no co-morbilities.

U still have to loose the 10%. I will check my paperwork for the BMI # question. Do you have other co-morbilities. I know in my class there where people with co-morbilities that I'm pretty sure there BMI was not over 40.

Danni-

So you had 6 months of the "weight control" classes + the weight loss surgery classes 1&2 & Nut visits

Got approved and now there's a 6 month wait time for a surgical date? Is it bc your surgeon is booked up or is it ok Kaisers end?

I thought they used non kaiser surgeons for bariatric services?

I'm great! I went into the surgery really really scared, but I'm now at... Almost 4 months and I haven't had any complications. I eat small amounts, restriction is still great, and I have noticed a change. Hopefully when I start working out, my weight loss will pick up, but I'm still happy to lose even a few pounds a week.

Preop class is intense lol. Ask any and all questions. Seriously. I asked random questions during mine and got all the answers I needed. Others kept quiet but don't be shy!

I have to use holy cross hospital and they are running 5-6 months after approval for the procedure. The surgeon is Dr. Brian Cantor. There is/ was and position to use other surgeon and pay the higher copay which s what I wanted to do because of the wait time. It depends on ur coverage options and unfortunately that was not allowed on my coverage. That I pay 185.00 every 2 weeks!! So I'm just waiting but check with member services to see if u have that option.

The requirement is 6 months total between classes and ur nutrition weigh ins. Until u met that 10% your paper work doesn't move for approval. It took me 8 months to lose my 10% too many parties and holidays so close together!!!! But the next day after the board met for approvals I got a call to meet the surgeon I went in later that week we went over something's he gave me Rex for everything I would need post op and now I'm just waiting for the call for a date

When do they weigh you at the first class or the nut? I'm stuck between losing or staying the same right now. I'm having a hard time not losing. Which is actually a problem bc I don't want to not qualify.

I'm horrified of paying premiums about 350 a month and almost never using the damn insurance & then going through all these hoops & losing the 10% & then to have them deny me.

If I have that happen I will feel very cheated.I know that if lost 10% which for me is 22# that I will be at a bmi too low for wls (37.5)

I pay out of pocket for my ins & I think I could cancel at any time. But I was much skinnier when I got kaiser & not on meds for Bp or diagnosed with Pcos. I doubt I'll have an easy time finding a reasonable plan (1000deductable, 30% co-insurance,3-400 a month) with a different carrier such as aetna or united.

Anyone out there had any luck with other insurances in virginia?

Thanks!

Your primary care doc. Knows all the ins and outs trust me!! Now that I'm thinking it my not have been 10%. I was around 357 and I think I had to loose around 12 lbs. my paperwork is at work. I will check it tomorrow and update the post or send u a PM. I also don't think the wait for surgery date is that long in Virginia. I'm sticking with kaiser because of the low out of pocket expense. Just small co pays and no bills!!!!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
