How do you know your full?

Recommended Posts

I am one month post op. I've started to introduce real food.. Which my doc says I can hav.. Like rice and pulses cooked togther.. But i fail to know when I'm supposed to stop! I had a small chickpea pancake today... I was able to finish it.. I was expecting I won't b able to eat more than two bites.. I wonder if I did it right or not..

I eat between 2-4 oz depending on the item. I have to weigh my food or I eat too much. When I eat too much I get pain between my shoulder blades and if I eat too fast I have a lump in my throat. When you ate your pancake, if you felt satisfied and not in pain or stuffed, then you did a great job getting full without getting overfull.

I also wonder about how will I know when I am full. I am 5 days post-op and ate 2 tbsp of pudding. I was able to eat it all. That worries me. Did I eat too much? It is also hard to tell with all the gas pain. Who knows if I am having gas pain or I am full??

I am 6 months out and still don't really get a full feeling. I know that I should eat 1/2 to 3/4 cup at a time depending upon the density. If I eat slowly I often get a sneeze or two which I am assuming is a sign I am full, but I mainly rely on measuring or eyeing the quantity. am amwhichwh

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
