If its alcohol your talking about get ready for negative , negative , negative comments !!!! What did you surgeon advise you? I was cleared at 3 weeks but admit cheated at 2. Nothing happened to me . Same as before . Good luck .

No...Alcohol very bad for your sleeve what did your DR. tell you when it's ok to drink...

my Dr told me about 3 weeks, it is nice i have become a cheap date, just remember if you would normally drink 2 glasses of wine, typically about 1/2 of one will knock you down.

My doctor said no more drinking, because of the caloric intake, and I'm not planning on gaining any weight back! But then again it wasn't a big deal for me to stop completely, because I was never a heavy drinker anyway.

My weight loss binder from my clinic says to avoid because of the empty calories, but once I'm on regular foods again my NUT (who works at the clinic) said the occasional small drink is fine. Just be aware, as kerbarrett mentions, that you'll get drunk on far less booze - probably good since we don't need all those extra calories anyhow! Additionally, because many of the people who have WLS are recovering food addicts at some level, to keep in mind that transference of the food addiction to something else (alcohol, drugs, etc) is a risk we should be aware of and monitor ourselves for.

I don't plan to completely give up alcohol, but I'm already one who rarely drinks more than a few drinks a month (as in, usually 2-3 or so), so I also don't expect it to be a problem.

Patron, lime, salt... Yum. My doc told me 3 months! I am only 5 weeks out and miss drinking. Probably a good thing because I got a little wild for over a year there and getting drunk almost every weekend. Boy that dipped in my wallet considering I would only drink Patron or Jäger. Mostly Patron!

I heart patron! 97 cals for 1.5 oz. Maximize the first six months of weight loss. Consider that new sleevers take in 600-800 cals. That would be 1/6 of the caloric intake. Empty calories indeed, but eventually the time will come. Salud!!

I am 5.5 weeks post op. I don't get drunk easier. I like wine and enjoy a few glasses a week.

I'm six months out and I think after 3 months, I would have a skinnygirl margarita every now and then, it is 100 calories and I make sure and log it in to myfitnesspal. And it definitely only takes one!

I didn't have this surgery to live like a nun. Yes you can drink after two months (anything earlier is not good for your healing stomach, don't listen to anyone who would tell you differently...talk to your surgeon).

I drink wine, not hard liquor. I was told champagne (bubbles) was ok after four months but wine was ok after two. I do not get drunk easier, in fact it's quite the opposite..it does not affect me much at all, though I do drink slower than I used to. What is bad is that I lost my palate after I went two months without food due to complications so now I find I can only drink white wine (some metabolic change that makes the tannins bother me in reds) and I don't appreciate the subtle flavors as I used to so good wine is sadly wasted on me I used to be known for my palate and we collect wine so this is something I find beyond annoying.

See how the booze effects you by trying it at home. I rarely drank a hard drink prior to surgery but occasionally would have a liquor with friends after dinner out. Now I can't drink those because of the concentrated sugars. They make me literally vomit...which I fortunately discovered at home with just my spouse.

Booze and sugar can effect you differently after surgery. For me it's the tannins and the sugars. For others they get drunk very easily. You should figure out how you do with it at home, then enjoy you life to it's fullest after you know how you do

I have had wine a couple times post op starting after 6 months. One glass of a nice chardonnay is all it takes for me to get sloshed. I thought this was a good thing until I started to think about why I was drinking the wine in the first place. To me, I was drinking it for the intoxication effects and taste, in that order. The more I thought about it, the less I wanted it. Why would I drink and increase the toxicity in my body when I have been working so hard to detox with clean food choices, water and supplements? Once I realized this, I just lost the motivation to drink any more. It was easy to let go. There are so many better ways to "have a good time" then with alcohol. I mainly get my party on now from running. This has much longer lasting effects and aligns with my health orientated goals.
