Port popped up from between my ribs

Recommended Posts

So, I was stretching out after exercising the other night....I was laying on my back with my feet over my head and my hands stretched up....then rolled back all on the floor to my original position. I then curled my legs up to twist to the side.

When I twisted to my left, my port popped up from between my ribs and was pushing up against my skin. Looked like that scene from Aliens when the alien was coming out of the guy's stomach....ANYWAY, FREAKED ME OUT!

When I went back in to my original position, my port went back in to place. It did not hurt but I really do not think that it should be able to do that. I have not had any residual pain and have not been able to duplicate the incident. I have not called my surgeon's office - thought I would ask here first.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Isn't the port stitched to our abdominal wall?

Strange!

I don't have to worry about my port 'popping out', it's always visible ... lmao

My Dr.s tell me that I have very little fat "between my skin layer" so my port has always stuck out. Kind of funnyt when wearing shirts that fit close. All of my family knows about my band, and my port and every family get together its a source of comic relief at times, but a badge of courage and a reminder of what I've done for ME, my health and my family.

But as for you, yeah, I'd have them check it out just in case.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
