UGH! Really? All over again?

Recommended Posts

OK... WARNING!!!! I AM GOING TO COMPLAIN!!!!!!

I am trying to have a revision from a lap band. My insurance company informed me today, that even though I had good success with my lap band before my supposed slip, that I would have to start the whole bariatric process over. They said that because my initial surgery was in 2009 I needed current proof of bariatric compliance. However, they would accept the last four years of diet documentation because the lap band slip was of no fault to me. Sounds crazy right? I have to attend meetings, take nutrition classes, have another pysch eval, obtain another support letter from my doctor, and go through cardiac clearance. UGH!!!!! Meanwhile, I have an empty lap band, an uncomfortable port, pain while eating, excess gas,and a tingling numbing pain that radiates behind my left shoulder and runs down to my finger tips. angry.gif I want out of lap band hell!

I have to focus on the positive. I am able to get all of the above taken care of before my next appointment in April. (I just have to rearrange my life to do so.)

Thanks for listening!

I'm sorry you have to go through all that. I hope the process is sped up so you can get this done.

That's horrible! You would think that would be considered almost an emergency. Hope they speed things up a bit for you! Good luck!

Know exactly what you're going through....I've been going through the same since this time last yr.....had the band removed in October as an emergency however, bc it cracked and was causing internal damage. Get it out as soon as possible....I had to wait to heal but also bc my insurance company said it wasn't medically nessary......got a new one under my husband....just submitted final paperwork yesterday...scheduled for March 27, hoping it is approved but working on an alternative in Mexico just in case.

I am sorry! That sounds like a pain in the A! But, if your can get it all done (and by the sounds of it your are determined enough to do so) it'll be happening before you know it. Hang in there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
