I met with my surgeon on 2/25 and he gave me a checklist of things I need to do before we submit for insurance pre-approval. I met with the nutritionist and psych both of which went well. Today I met with my PCP because I need a letter from him recommending this surgery. He refuses to give me the letter for 3 months because he wants to monitor my weight. My insurance company does require a medically supervised program within the past year however I've been seeing my Dr for over 10!! He's always monitored my weight. I'm so frustrated. My blood pressure was 130/95 I'm 385 lbs. I was hoping to have surgery in 5 weeks and now I've had a huge setback. My motivation is gone...this is so depressing!!!!

Wow I don't even know what to say to this...

It's awful! Can you try looking into your weight fluctuations from trying to diet in the past year or so and bring it to your doctor and talked to him about it and ask again?

Or does he have fluctuating weights taken from you in the last year or so? You could call him and say look at these, I have been trying..

I mentioned all of what you said and he basically told me no, I'll see you next month. He said he needs everything documented in case the insurance company comes back at him. Will this screw up my nut and psych eval? There's going to be a big gap from when I saw them 2/27 and 3 months from now!

If I could do self-pay I would however by the time I'd come up with the money, I'd probably be dead lol! This is definitely one great reason to do self-pay...one less frustration to worry about!

Hang in there just as msmoya has said maybe God is holding it off for your protection. Years ago I was ok'd to have the roux n y completed and was on the table to have the surgery, and I chickened out at the last min. Now this was a time when they cut you from sternum to pubic bone. I had the iv's in and medicine flowing I just got scared. I really believe that was God telling me No. Years later I was ale to have the sleeve and it was performed in Mexico...who would've thunk it?

I don't think so, but I would call and ask to put your mind at ease I know my surgeons office did everything in regards to dealing with the insurance. Does yours? If so call them they know all the ins and outs...

Hang in there!

Use the three months as a positive time to get things done

It will go by quicker if you try and make it positive

I know this is a set back for you but don't worry

In just three months you will be on your way

Stay strong

I started my journey back in August 2012. It took almost 6 months before I was able to have the surgery, I was sleeved on 1/2. I was frustrated that it was taking so long.. but it comes before you know. Just have some patience, it will happen.. Good Luck..

Dont look at this that way... this is just a delay but if you give up it is a stop sign. Your Doctor probably NOT educated on the procedure and doesnt understand obesity. Just go along and jump through the hoops. I had to wait 4 months and it gave me time learn nd wrap head around it. There are no accidents! Keep going!

I know the feeling! Last year I was approved for lap band, and I backed out 3 weeks before the procedure. I must say I AM SO GLAD I DID! Take as another sleever said, everything happens for a reason. You will be there one day, leave it in Gods hands as I did and everything will work itself out. Dealing with insurance companies is always a hassle, none WANT to pay but have too. Take care and good luck

Please check with your surgeon. There are other doctors you can go to who are more supportive. They should be working with a team if them and can recommend a few for you to go to. Don't let anything or anyone stand in your way of becoming healthy.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
