Having my band removed

Recommended Posts

I just had my band removed and replaced after almost 2 years. I had slippage and I cannot tell you the amount of pain I had. I thought and prayed to die. It was worse than gall bladder or child birth. My sugeon blamed it on my continuous vomiting for the past few days, but the vomiting was from the slipppage. Oh well. He put in a 10cc band and had taken out the 4cc. Down 118 pounds and will be having a two year celebration on August 30th. Be well all.

I have not had my band put in yet but I am well aquainted with panic and anxiety. Xanax is now my best friend (very very low dose does the trick for me). I find that when I have anxiety, I get in the tub and lay back to where all of my face is covered except the parts required to breathe. I lay there and float. Something about the pressure of the Water is supposed to be soothing. It is enough for me so that when I get out of the tub I have to have a nap. Walking off the anxiety works too in a quiet part of town. Perhaps the trick is to overcome the anxiety and not focus on the band so much.

Like I said, I do not have my band yet so my time is coming but that is a tip or two for dealing with the stress you are feeling.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
