What's with rating personal profiles?

Recommended Posts

I understand having the five star system to rate forum topics, groups, etc. However, having it to rate an actual person feels so, I'm not sure... icky? Judgmental? Rude? Classless? We all have worth in various forms. I'll tell you, I didn't think anything about it until I visited my own profile to update my weight and saw that I had been rated four stars. I'd like to say that it didn't matter to me, but it kind of hurt. Don't get me wrong, if you knew me in person I'd probably be found to be a two star individual on my best day, but this is a place I come to for acceptance, because we all share a huge similarity in our journey. I come here to speak openly and honestly about my struggles and victories with my sleeve, and to post questions without fear of ridicule. I guess it just bothers me. And, no, this is not a plea to visit my profile and rate me. It's a desire to have this aspect of the site removed all together.

Man! Now I have to check my star ratings. I guess I'm just oblivious, never noticed a star rating on my profile. BRB....(insert Jeopardy music here) ...EEK! I got no stars, you're all just a bunch of HATERS! :P

Not anymore! Consider yourself rated. I guess if it's going to be there, I might as well engage it. It's an honest rating too, because I personally adore your posts and your personality. :)

i can understand... and i agree.. you are no longer a 4 .. you are 5 star :)

but we don't need to feel we are falling short in anyway on here except short on weight!

Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the stars, but you've just invalidated the whole point of your OP. :P Thanks for judging me.

I know I did. I'm weak, easily-swayed, and can't stand for someone to feel bad about themselves, jokingly or not. I had to do it!

Aw, thank you so much, you're so sweet! I PROMISE this was not a ploy for ratings. I really do hope that maybe an admin will read this and take it into consideration. Of course, I realize that VST may use a pre-built platform and that they don't have an option to remove the profile ratings, but it's always worth a try.

I never saw the rating until you posted this so I went to look and could hardly see it because I have no stars. I would feel something if I knew what it meant but since I never knew those stars were there I am confused and I have never rated anyone else. I have liked posts and when I like your post that should mean something, right?? Oh well. I am glad I can learn from others here and hopefully share a little encouragement to somebody else. We are all stars here to me

I never paid attention to this before, but now that you mentioned it had to take a look. Fear not, we are rated and judged everyday by someone, as long as you know who and what you are and are happy that's all that matters. :)

I take it more as rating the work you have done on your profile. Some folks never make any improvements which is OK if that floats your boat.

I am not concerned about retaining my 5 star rating anymore so I discontinued the free toaster give away. <_<

Hehe.. I wrote about this about a month ago! I was updating my profile... I had never even noticed the grey stars by my name until that day.

Why? Because someone gave me a big fat 1 star rating!

Yes folks! 1 star!!!

I think your right, it is wrong on so many levels!

(Hint I was able to see the last few people that visited my page.. So yeah)

Oh and by the way can you stop by proudgrammys page and up her stars to five I keep trying but It's not working.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
