Need my psych eval...but no one does it in NJ!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey all...

Once I get my psych done, I can get a date for my surgery. However, I'm having a horrible time finding someone in NJ who will do this for me. Any suggestions? I'm having the surgery with Dr. Abkin in Florham Park. I can go from Netcong down past Woodbridge (my schedule allows for that.)

Thanks!

Most surgeons have a list of names. Did you ask the office worker if this was available?

Yes, I did get one name from my Dr's office. He works in accordance with them. However, he's very expensive, and not covered with insurance. I guess I'm looking for a good deal - considering some that I've called charge upwards of $400 for the eval! Hey - it's Christmas time!! hehehe

Call the insurance company and get a list of doctors who are covered. THEN call the doctors to tell them what you need from them. Surely someone in your area will provide you with your behavioral assessment.

If you live in North jersey, I had a great social worker in rockland who only charged 160 maybe. I went to Dr. Bessler in columbia and he recommended her highly.

Call any pschologist on your plan and tell them what you need. They should be able to do a pre-surg psych eval with no problem.

I have Horizon PPO and used Jewish Family Services in Somerville (they accept my insurance and I just had to pay a $20 copay). The psychologist had never done the eval before, but she was thorough and my insurance was satisfied with it.

Good luck

Most doctors have a form that they want filled out. Ask for that form and any psych doctor can do the eval. I know that the group that I use gives a basic form and the patient takes it with them to the eval and gets it filled out. Simple as that. ~Mandy

Of course I called my insurance - got a listing of over 50 'M.D's' in my 50 mile radius area. My doctor does not accept evals from a social worker; must be an M.D. Of all of these doctors - NONE would do an eval. I got so many replies of "Oh, we don't do that" or "We don't believe in that". I got so fed up. So, I booked with the PhD. that works with my doctors office, made the appointment and now will pay the $275 just to get it done. Sure, would have been great to have Insurance pay for it; but it was such a headache.

Yes; that much $ is alot THIS time of year...but I think that by the time this date rolls around next year...That $275 will have been worth every penny.

Thank you everyone for all of your input!!!

;)

My doctor told me stability; that I wasn't doing this on a whim, and that I'm ignorant to all the changes about to happen in my life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
