I am due to have my surgery March 18th and I will tell you what I have found out.... The weightloss is more important than the loose skin. I would imagine if you have been overweight most of your life your skin will not bounce back unless you are younger than maybe that is not the case so much. I assume it also depends on how much you have to lose. I know I will probably not be in a bikini :) Ever.... and my flappy skin will be flapping all over the place. I heard my insurance will cover the skin surgery. We will see... however but my back will be soo much better. Excercizing is important and it will help as will getting in your protien to try to hold onto some of your muscle mass.

The scars from skin surgery are ridiculous, and because I am African American, many of us suffer from Keloid skin, which exasperates scars. I have been big my whole life. I am mostly concerned with my arms because I am borderline Popeye! Lol

Weight lifting -- even low weights (3 and 5 pounds) -- helped my arms. It didn't take long to start seeing some muscle definition, and the muscle helped with some of the loose skin in the arms.

Check with your doctor about when you can start exercising. I had a hiatial hernia repaired along with my surgery, so I couldn't do anything besides walking until 6 weeks had passed.

I'm with her! Walk, walk walk, but its to soon to be lifting weights or doing abdominal exercises!

Your doctor will usually clear you between 4 and 6 weeks. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
