Questions! Advice please :)

Okay so tomorrow I go on puréed foods and my biggest fear is since I will be eating actual food with carbs and calories (not clear liquid) is that I will gain weight. I'm on day 6 and I have lost 18 lbs since I left the hospital! I'm shocked too!

Anyone else feels this way or have advice?

You need the calories from food to continue to lose weight and be able to function long-term. You're starting now to fuel your body rather than just eat to eat. You need to provide your body with good fuel so that it will run efficiently without breaking down internally. You need the Protein and calories to protect your important muscles while your body lets go of the fat. Don't worry about gaining weight. That's almost impossible with the amount of food you'll be able to consume. Concentrate on being healthy and developing healthy habits and you're going to do fine! :)

You're not going to be eating enough carbs at this point to make a dent. I didn't focus on calories, carbs or fat! I was barely eating 2 oz of food every 2-3 hours. Until you get to the point of eating regularly, I would just concentrate on fueling your body! The most important element is protein!

I agree with what everyone said but I will say that avoiding refined carbs is probably a good idea because it will stave off cravings for later. I stuck with splenda for sweetener, avoiding any sugar. I later tried sugar in some things (yogurt for example) and this set me back a little until I took it back out of my diet again. I also ate some instant mashed potatoes on the puree phase and wouldn't do that again if i could do back. Focusing on getting whole grains is really ideal. Good luck and welcome back to some normal food again!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
