So what do you think the Democrats will do?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering what you all think the Democrats will do when they become the Congressional majority in January? Do you think they'll act as badly as the Republicans did about Bill Clinton? Personally, I can't equate getting a little nooky with starting a losing war. Do you think they'll impeach Bush? Do you think they'll just sit on their hands? Or will they just go on with business as usual? How moderate are all those Democrats?

I am not sure how much they will actually be able to get done, since they either have to have the cooperation of Bush or a huge majority to bypass a veto. The more important thing, I think, is that they will be able to block a lot of what Bush wants. I think that was a major problem when we had a Republican congress. They were basically a rubber stamp for the President.

I hope they do have some investigations and are able to shed some light on the lawfulness and ethicalness (is that a word?) of things that have been going on. As much as I think he deserves it, I doubt they will try to impeach Bush, unless something shocking and totally unforgiveable comes to light in the investigations. I have a feeling the Democrats want to be seen as the better party, not distracting a President when there is a war going on or when there is a possibility of terrorism. I think they want to be able to say something like, "Republicans knew about the possibility of terrorism in the late '90s and still chose to distract the President from dealing with that possibility. We are not going to be that party."

I think they will put Dubya in the position of having to veto ethics rules, the 9/11 Commission's Recommendations and minimum wage increases...AND put the Republicans in the position of publically not voting to override his vetoes and of showing the American public that they don't want to have ethics rules, they don't want to implement the 9/11 Commission's recommendations and they don't want people to make a whopping $15,080 per year.

They will not impeach Bush...but they will have to find a way to pay for this:

So is that raising taxes? Or is it putting our money where Dubya's mouth went? (I'm tellin' ya...Monica's mouth was way cheaper.)

Amen to all you said - I have been pondering on why Clintons' zipper failure was such a big deal when George Bush, Sr had his honey, Newt Gingrich was bopping the help as did Rudy Guilano, marrying the last one, then there was Henry Hyde and numerous others with questionable morals. We didn't hear much about them, tho. Wonder why not?

Clinton didn't invade a country that had not attacked us, causing thousands of deaths and maiming of innocents. Nor did he cause us to be hated internationally as Bush has. Who wants to be called "the ugly American"?

My pet theory is that many Reps hated Clinton even more then they say we dems now hate Bush. They wanted to nail him for something, anything, and after a lot of investigation(with taxpayer money) into things like Whitewater and all that didn't prove wrongdoing, they stumbled onto his fling with Monica. And they cobbled together a case about harrasment, to get him on the stand, hoping he would deny it under oath and they could get him on perjury.

I'm still irritated that the party who impeached a sitting president for that is making noises that the dems shouldn't try to impeach a sitting president for things that actually affect the country. Not that I think we should impeach him.

No, I have not been for impeachment either, unless all of them were thrown out, meaning Bush, Cheney and Rove. Just impeaching Bush wouldn't change anything leaving Cheney still in power. I won't say that I hate Bush, I think he is the village idiot, puppet

and just want him to GO AWAY -SOMEWHERE-

TO ANY OTHER PLANET, and take his friends with him.

I think the book "Hunting of the President" by Joe Conason and Gene Lyons is the best one explaining what happened behind the scenes. As rotten as Lee Atwater was he apologized on his deathbed for his actions. A little conscience too late.

I hope they do something with the Immigration issue

Vice President Lyndon Johnson in 1962 received the following message

from a Native American Indian Chief on a reservation:

"Be careful with your immigration laws. We were careless with ours."

Carlene--That is hilarious. I am hoping that the Dems exhibit some reason in their dealings with GWB. He and his cronies haven't shown much reason. I do hope the Dems don't go overboard with grinding old axes, but I do hope they hold hearings about Iraq so the public can get the idea that they were taken for a ride by the Republicans. The main thing I hope is that the Dems will get rid of the fearmongering the Repubs have been getting fat on for years. I think the American public has had it up to here with constant threats. By the way, isn't it amazing that gas is going up after the election. I head some guy say that GWB couldn't control the cost of gas. I thought that his friends can and do. I hope they don't make all Americans pay for the Democrats taking Congress. That might be a good thing for the Democrats to investigate. I think I'm going to have to change my moniker from bitteroldhag to cynicaloldhag. What do you think?

Hey everyone. I live in the same district as Tom Delay here in Texas! I read about a Texas house member that wanted to pass a few bills such as tax money that is sent to South America and make it where babies from illegals do not get citizenship. As i read further down, the ACLU and house democrats in Texas were already complaining. As a democrat i agree with the bills, and hope they dont get blocked by democrats, it will just make us look bad. We shall see the outcome.

As for the rest of the country, the big thing is Iraq. If we can do something better then it will just pave the way for a democrat president in 2008. I just have to keep reminding my fellow democrats, "look who put you into office." MANY of the races were very close to republicans so we better not get soft.

One of my favorite bumper stickers:

"When Clinton lied, nobody died!"

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
