Just wanted to check in to see how everyone was doing. I've had 2 fills with no restriction. I'm frustrated, but I'm not giving up!!!

I'm getting my second fill the Monday after Thanksgiving, hoping that will make a difference. I'm pretty frustrated too!

I just got my 3rd fill 2.4cc's I have lost 32 lbs and feel great! I keep telling my self I didn't gain this in a few months, so I know it will take time to get it off. My short trem goal is 10 lbs more by the new year.

I was banded mid August and am down about 40 lbs. I know it's a good beginning, but I'm constantly feeling like it's not fast enough or that I'm cheating. I really feel very little restriction, and I worry that I may have stretched out my pouch. I've had 3 fills in a 4 cc band. Patience is a virtue I must work on...

I've lost 46 lbs since my surgery without any difficulty and chose to have my first fill this week before the holidays to make sure I don't regain any weight.

I've lost 74 since Aug. 7, but I've hit a major plateau in the last two weeks. I'm rechecking everything to see what's changed that could have stopped my losing. I've had one fill of 2.2 in my band that holds 4 cc's.

I was banded 8/22 and have lost 20 lbs. I too have had 2 fills and feel little to no restriction. I am a bit frustrated too, but I guess 20 lbs is better than nothing!!!

I was banded on August 30, 2006 and I am down 51 pounds. This is not easy and I have many, many questions.

Hi,

I enjoy this forum and now have a question. I cannot seem to eat chicken and no matter what I do it comes back to me. In addition I am having trouble at the night time meal, and I do not know why. I went to the doctor today for the monthly checkup, and they said nothing is wrong and if the band moved I would know. I have tried not drinking before eating, eating small bites but no good. Sometimes fish stays down. No other problem during the day. I was banded on August 30, 2006 and have had two fills to total 1.25CC if that makes sense. Thanks for any repsonse.

Sometimes, people just can't eat tough meats post surgery. It's different for everyone. I can eat almost anything most of the time, but every now and then I find that something simple is difficult to eat. chicken just might be one of those things you have to go without. I know that's not fun. I love chicken and would hate that too. Fish is a lighter and sometimes flakey which might be why it goes down easier. About the night time meal, are you getting in 3 meals per day? I would suggest trying to get your last meal in earlier so that you're still eating 3 times per day. Also, I just want to make sure you remember to not only eat small bites, but to chew very thoroughly. This makes a big difference I've found. If it's really bothering you, you might want to try getting a little saline removed. You don't want to be uncomfortable and unable to eat 3 meals per day. Hope this helps!

Lauren

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
