Well Hello again . This time I am not here because of the fear of having surgery, I am now a member of the band club . OMG I can not believe I actually went through with this whole thing. You see I am the biggest chicken when it comes to pain or anything of the unknown. But anyways it is all behind me know and I hope that the next few weeks will be as easy going though the surgery . Good luck to all of you who are getting ready for the big day, and those of you who are like me and already jumped into the pool ,Here's to Tommorrow

This is pretaining to a few previous posts... I bought my Better Than Bouillion off of Amazon.com. I couldn't find it in any stores around here. Also, if you are looking for Imagine Soups, their website has a store locator. I was glad I checked that because, while there are a million grocery stores around me, only 5 or 6 carried that line. Saved me a wild goose chase!

What is it with getting sick right before surgery? Feels like my body is trying to get sick, but I can't...I get banded on the 26th. I guess I'll be picking up some Airbornne tomorrow. Good idea Audree. I already got Vitamin C, and zinc.

Ugh! Me too! This morning I woke up feeling like I have the beginnings of a sinus infection. I'm hoping it's just my allergies acting up. I think I will pick up some Airborne too. Yikes... I'm only 3 days out! I cannot get sick now!

All this talk about Gas-X just reminded me... My surgeon told me to get Maalox Multi. It treats the gas and heartburn. I guess it's common to get heartburn after too? I haven't heard any of you already banded folks mention anything about that, but I guess you never know.

Hi January Bandsters, I got banded on 15th and so far everything has been pretty smooth. It's kind of a challenge to get enough Protein in but I can usually make it to 50 grams. I do two Protein Shakes, morning and night and add dry milk powder and 1/2 cup of skim milk and try to do a broth or cream Soup at lunch. Any other ideas to boost the protein?? Last night I drove to the mall to exchange some Christmas presents and that was OK but maybe not the wisest decision. I'm just not used to being home so much and am starting to get a little restless so now I'm cleaning and doing laundry. Thankfully I start back to one of my jobs on Monday and the other the Feb. 1st (more physical). I'm really enjoying this website and have learned alot by reading everyone's entries.

Hi, everyone. I was banded on the 15th as well. For the most part everything is fine. Lots and Lots of gas yesterday. I feel like normal today and probably could have gone to work. I had originally planned to only take 3 days (Mon-Wed) but I don't think I could have worked a whole day yesterday and I have a desk job.

Also, my new job seems to be getting enough Protein and Water down - Yesterday I only managed about 32 ounces of water and about 40 grams of protein and that was thanks to Protein Shakes (Tropical Blast from bariatriceating.com. I am not hungry at all and need to remind myself to drink and eat. That part is excellent!

I am going to get my hair done today - roots wait for no-one!

Thanks for all the encouragement!

Hi BabyGotBack what brand fudgesicles? Also where can I find liquid tylenol pm and Better tha bouillion. I am in Chicago and haven't seen the bouillon and have to admit never looked for liquid tylenol. Also I hate these Flinstones is there a great tasting liquid Multivitamin? :help:

Hi! I'm in Chicago, too. You can find the better then boullion at any grocery store. I got mine at Jewels, near the regular boullion. It came in a jar.

Also, I bought Centrum Adult chewables at Walgreens (I believe someone else mentioned them). There pretty good, big, but good.

I did turn around and buy from "bariatric advantage" their chewable Multi-Vitamin and a separate Iron pill. My nutritionist suggested them, because they are specifically designed for the bariatric patient. They also have available on their home site the "Nectar" Protein supplements that BabyGotBack has described. So far, I've only tried the Fuzzy Navel, which was pretty good - I probably diluted mine more then Audree did, and the Lemon Iced Tea. It's not that bad either.

Audree, After typing the above post...I was sitting here laughing. It appears that everytime I come up with something new to me...I come back to this thread and see you posting about.

From the nectar, to the Myoplex I purchased yesterday after being away from the thread for a couple of days. I got the vanilla, though. I'm not that daring when it comes to chocolate and Protein Drinks. In my opinion...if the flavor is going to be horrible, it's going to be with the Chocolate. LOL.

Since you've tried it though, and say it's okay...I may buy one of the smaller versions as a taste test. :(

I have a question for the newley banded people. I was banded on the 12th. I started week 2 today and that, for me, is pureed stuff. I have had a hug problem with energy. I don't know if I am doing too much or not getting enough Protein in but I am hoping food will help. Ok, so the magic question is... How can you tell if you are full? I feel a little pressure under my ribcage so I am stopping but I didn't get much food in. Maybe 20 tiny bites of scrambled egg, cream of wheat and baby food bananas, total. I don't want to push it and have discomfort but I sure would like some energy.

Thanks

Renee

Hi Renee! You're on pureed! I wish...LOL. I'm still on full liquids till next week. While we're eating different things, we're still getting in about the same amount...actually, I've just gotten up to 4 oz.

Your low energy is probably due to not getting the correct amount of Protein in. For me, my nutritionist stated that the golden rule is 60. Actually, she said 60 for everything...water, protein and excercise. It's easier to remember that way.

I'm not sure what your total protein count is, but until you start on solid food - and can eat more, it was my understanding that you may need to continue to boost the protein in the foods you are eating. I was told to add protein powders, such as beneprotein or nonfat dry milk, to my foods as I prepared them and it would help.

I've also found that moving around has helped a little with my energy level. I'm slowly building up my activities every day. Trying a little more one day, and I've found that I can do more the next day - and I'm no way near getting all my protein in.

I'm sure others will have some suggestions for you as well. The big thing is that if this continues, you may want to consult your doctor or nutritionist for suggestions.

Thanks for responding Chris.

I had surgery on Friday and went back to work on Monday. I am wondering if that wasn't a mistake. Where do you get the beneprotein? I may need to add that into my foods. I know that I am not getting my total Protein in.

Have you gotten "full" on your liquids? I think I drank something too fast yesterday because something got stuck. It was a weird feeling.

Anyone experience "full" yet? What is it supposed to feel like?

Congrats PeaCeJ,

I was also banded on the 15th with good success so far. I know what you mean about getting enough Protein and Water down. I'm afraid when I go back to work I won't have enough time to work and drink at the same time. Keep in touch with your progress!!

The way I have been getting most of my protein is by creamy split pea soup. I can is 18 grams of protein. Also, adding 1 cup soy milk to my coffee (breakfast for me these days). I have a lot of restriction still 2 weeks post op. I can have even less than a cup if it is cold.

Beans and lentils pureed also have a lot of protein and adding shredded cheese.< /p>

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
