Workin the abs

Recommended Posts

So this is my 7th week post-op. I started going to the gym and am doing the c25k and lifting weights. On monday i did 70 crunches on one of the machines with 35lb weights - i was still pretty sore from Monday, but on Wednesday i did 100 with 35lbs. Hopefully this will help with loose skin issues. Thoughts?

No experience directly, and I don't know much about the whole loose skin issue just yet, but a woman I work with who was sleeved recently, she has healed up pretty nicely, not much issue with loose skin, she attributes that to running and doing abs. I would figure, bringing those muscles up in that area would replace that loose skin with muscle.

Honestly, toning with weights and lotion. I know men usually don't now about about lotions but you want to keep your skin as elastric as possible. Look for lotions that help with this.

Good luck!

It's not just about crunches.

Planks, squats, bicycles, lunges, mountain climbers, bear claws, anything that you need balance and core is going to help with the abs. You are going to kill yourself at that pace. There are a lot of great ab workouts that take 10 minutes at the end of your workout.

Yes....honestly I would do planks before I did crunches. Crunches suck. But really, you need a well rounded routine like mentioned above to work the entire core. Crunches alone do not target the entire abdominal core very well. Except....I would do bear CRAWLS....not "bear claws". Bear claws are what got a lot of us in this mess. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
