When can I have salad, you know the green stuff?

Once your Doctor has released you to eat raw vegetable or lettuce...usually refered to as "solid foods". Check with your Doc.

Now...when will you tolerate salad is another matter. I ate greens at 5 weeks out. Iceberg lettuce did not go so well.......but I found that dark leafy greens where just fine. The problem with salad at an early stage is that it takes up room when you should be ensuring you get your Protein in first. So if you've managed to get the essentials in then... have at it if your doc says ok. Remember to be smart about what you put on those greens because toppings and dressings can be a whole load of fat that we just don't need. I'm loving infused vinegars and greek yogurt concoctions on salad these days.

I know what you mean about wanting salad, I love my greens too!

EveEveeeeeeeeevery Dr has different plans so you should check with yours to be sure. That being said I was aloud raw vegetables and all foods for that matter at 1 month out. I have heard that some people have trouble with lettuce but it has not been a problem for me. Good Luck.

I agree with JenC. I'm 12 weeks out and started eating salads at 10 weeks, not sooner, because I wanted to focus on getting my Protein in for optimal weight loss. I usually have chef's salad because of the meat, cheese, and egg. However; I can't eat alot, and within two hours of eating salad, I get hungry again. So like JenC said, get your protein in first, then treat yourself to salad. Good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
