Are we ever safe from leaks?

Recommended Posts

I may sound kind of panicked. I know I can't go back in time and don't regret my decision. I am 11 days post op and doing awesome. Following my diet perfectly. Have not been nauseas or thrown up ever. For some strange reason I have been reading a bunch on leaks etc. one poster stated that the complication and mortality rate increases with time post op. That didn't make sense to me is there any definitive research that would or could serve as a bench mark as to when I could stop worrying about the threat of a leak. I have read stories on here about someone a year out developing a leak. I know that's the exception, not the rule. Any info would be appreciated. I am scared. I am a father of two girls with a third daughter due in a few weeks. Great job and future. Sole provider.

I think you should stop worrying now!! :)

It's only going to make you stressed at every little thing! And trust me the next month will be full of weird aches and pains..

That being said a safe "window" for healing enough to avoid a leak is 5 to 6 weeks.

But I'm sure someone will have more info about specifics :)

I am 1 month 2 weeks out and have done wonderful.. I also was really concerned about leaks because I have a kidney condition that causes me to hold Fluid and not heal well so I asked my Dr about this and she said that the latest she has seen someone develop a leak was at 29 days but the risk of a leak is only 2%. Just stick to your diet stages and you should be fine.. stop worrying and just enjoy dropping the weight!!!! :)

I agree with you. It's just sometimes I have this helpless thought of what did I do. Did I really think it through? I know I made the best decision I could have. I'm just a bit of a worry wart tonight.

Perfectly normal to feel that way for a while.

The happiness and contentment comes and you will love love love you're decision!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
