Oh no... Getting Sleeved while on my period

Recommended Posts

Add baby wipes to your list and a supply of tampons. They are often hard to come by!

That Sucks!!!! As for the pain from cramps...you will be nicely dosed with morphine (at least I was) and then you get liquid vicodin. As for the sanitary reasons...I wouldn't worry about that...I mean these people are supposed to be medical professionals I think they have seen it all...and something like menstruation is probably easily handled for them.

But that still Sucks! I'm sorry it worked out that way.

Aceves doesn't use morphine nor Vicodin. You will get sublingual Supradol which will help if you are crampy.

I have just figured out that my period will be starting a day before my surgery...

I am a bit wigged out about this. The hygenic issues of course... worried about having catheter down there.

The cramps I get are pretty bad, especially day 1 and 2, I have long heavy flows. How will I clean myself, even handle things like tampons or pads if i'm layed up in bed barely able to move with wires and drains and such?

I'm pretty freaked out here.

Any advice?

I was on day three of my period when I had the surgery. I told the nurse on the day of surgery and she gave me a pair of mesh panties and a pad....she said it's not a big deal so many women have their periods when they go for surgery. My period stopped after the surgery and I didn't get it again until the next month. Everything was fine. Don't worry....it's not a big deal. Good Luck!!!!!!

I have the opposite reaction to stress. I will completely miss my period for the month when under the amount of stress I know I will be having the month of my surgery. I am kind of counting on that. LOL! It will be fine. I'm sure the nurses see this all the time and they are all fully trained to wipe if needed. If they are good, it will be very quick. :) (I used to be a nurse aide.)

I wish I would have had one of those nurses lol. Mine barely touched me and I still felt a bit wet afterwards.

Er, that would upset me too.

Depending on your surgeon' date=' you may not have this option. So require you to stop birth control (mine did)

Take someone like a mom, sister, or best friend who would be willing to wipe you. I had my period and my step mom wiped me once and the nurses did too but they were shy about it vs my step mom who got me super dry. By day 2/3, I was wiping okayish. It's day 1/2 that you can't bend too much[/quote']

I'm a little freaked out... Is someone going to have to wipe me after a BM??!! I have bathroom issues as it is (going in public places.. Lol)

How many days after surgery will this go on?!

I am an apple shape and carry most of my weight in my abdomen. I went into surgery at 302. I couldn't bend forward to save my life.

Even if your surgeon doesn't require it, I'd recommend taking milk of magnesia the day before if you're permitted (ask to be sure)

I didn't have a BM for about 5-7 days post op. and I was able to wipe myself at that point lol. I was fine to wipe by day... 3. At that point even if it hurt I would do it as I needed to dry myself. My first shower post op was HEAVEN!!!!

I'm apple shaped as well, and this was a concern for me even before I read it. I've just heard of so many people finding it strenuous to bend and was worried about all the things I wouldn't be able to do.

Thanks for being so candid and sharing your experience!

How far out are you now? How much have you lost??

I'm about 3 months out and 60 pounds down. I'm loosing a bit slower than I would have thought, but I figure my skin would thank me later lol. Plus I don't really exercise at all... So that could explain why I'm not losing faster.

Wow!!! That's 20 pounds a month! When I was doing weight watchers I would lose like 6 pounds a month at the most!

I am so happy for you! This ball ain't rolling as fast as I would like, but I have my consultation next month and I'm hoping I'll have a date two months later or sooner. I can't wait to start my new life! But I'm a little scared..

I was scared too to be honest. And it has had many bumps. My highest weight was 330. To be at 240 means I've lost 90 pounds from my highest. That amazes me.

The sleeve has truly changed my life. Sure, I tend to pms and eat like no other, not as bad as it sounds, but I'm still losing. It makes me happy to have more energy. And my body doesn't hurt as much. Which is the too best thing hands down. My feet are thanking me for the weight loss.

It took me about 6-7 months to woman up and go through with everything. The process may be long, but just remember your goal. I never thought I'd get sleeved. I would binge, gain 5, and tell myself that I would never hit my goal weight. But I did. And you'll be on this side with us soon :)

Just keep your head in the game!

I'm scared, but at the same time I'm ready. I've been overweight ALL my life so I don't know what it's like to be a smaller version of myself.

I'm excited to start that next chapter in my life, you know, the one where I can actually participate in it.

I have two small children and I feel like I'm not 100% there because I'm always thinking about my weight. I don't run around and play as much as I'd looooove to. I can't wait for my body to not hurt after doing the simplest of things.

I know it's going to be very hard work and I'm totally down and committed to this process. It just sucks that I have to wait. I'm hoping I won't have to wait more than 2 months for a surgery date. That would be wonderful.

I know that by the end of this year my life will be changing at warp speed, and I'm looking forward to it!

I don't know where you are from but what was you initial meeting with your surgeon like? What kinds of things did you go over? I live in BC, Canada.

I'm from California. The initial meeting with my surgeon, he went over whether the sleeve or bypass would be best, answered some questions, and calculated my goal weight. He told me that I would get down to at least 200 with the sleeve, 175 with bypass. Obviously I can lose more, he said I would have to put in some effort but it was doable. But that I should be prepared to lose 100 pounds and be happy. And I am truly okay with getting to just 200. I told him my goal was 175. I've been 175 before, and while I would still have a gut and be overweight, I thought I looked very sexy at 175-200.

Just have realistic goals. Some people may lose 200, some 100. Just be okay with losing 65-75% of your extra weight.

Ask anything and everything to your surgeon. Any fear you have. He'll answer everything.

Do you also have to go through classes? Or what's the process up there?

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
