I just found out from my insurance company that I do have coverage.

Hallalulah

BUT the representative that I spoke to said we don't cover a bariatric dr so you would have to find out another type of physician who does it.

Well that lost me. She said some cardiologist perform the surgery.

Anyways, what type of dr would I look under or search for on the web?

Thanks

You have to have a surgeon who is EXPERIENCED in doing this type of surgery. That doesn't necessarily mean they will be called "bariatric surgeons" but you must make sure they do have experience in these procedures.

When I was looking for surgeons I discovered mine listed in the insurance roster as "general surgeons." So start there. Then go to lapband.com for a list of doctors in your area who do the surgery, and see if any names appear on both lists.

You will NOT find a cardiologist who does lapbanding surgery, and I'm shocked you were told that by an insurance representative.

I called back and someone else said a general surgeon but my gosh do you know how many hundreds of general surgeons there are to call in my area.

I looked under lap band but they all come back to bariactric and that won't work.

My surgeon was a cardiologist before he switched to doing lap bands full time. Maybe an email to Inamed could help?

I think most of the lapband doctors are also general surgeons. Some of them started with various stomach surgeries, etc or laporscopic procedures such as gall bladder. I would find a lapband doctor and then look to see how they are listed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
