What type of bra should yoy wear post-VSG?

Recommended Posts

This might sound like a silly question, but can you wear a regular bra (underwire) right after surgery? I've heard it recommended to wear a sports bra, but I find it hard to find one that fits well and is not like a wrestling match to get on! I think it would be difficult to get one on being sore. I guess I could go home from the hospital not wearing a bra at all or while I'm recovering at home, but I plan on returning to work 1-2 weeks after surgery?

I had no troubles at all putting my normal Lane Bryant heavy duty under wire bra back on at all. :-)

I wore a light weight cami sport bra (like this one)

to be comfy in the hospital. It was just better for me as far as getting around but also sleeping a lot and it had a front closure!

I wore my under wire But I wish I brought something to stick under the wire for padding. I just tucked my shirt under it when I wasn't around people or in public.

I vote for a wonderbra.

I finally figured out where they got their name from. It's because when women take them off we wonder where the tata's go??

I had to buy new bras post op...cause that is where the weight came off first (figures!)..but because I think the size will change some more over time I bought some Genie bras from Walmart so I will get more use out of them. They do run small though so I would go up a size from what the package says. They are made of a nylon type material for stretch and they are inexpensive.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
