I'm 21 years old. I was approved for my surgery about 3 weeks ago. My date is February 28. I started the pre-op diet 4 days ago (it's been the hardest battle mentally to fight wanting to eat EVER.) Two weeks before the pre-op diet I started drinking just Water. I find if I use too much Crystal Light, the scale stops moving. My savior has been sugar free Popsicles. But, since last June, I was fighting and doing all the necessary steps to get the surgery. Now I'm having second thoughts. I have not cheated on the pre-op diet for fear that something can go wrong in surgery and I must say that thought has helped me a lot. I am on a strict Protein liquid diet - no meals(need not mention the cravings for the oddest things like tuna, and salad with olive oil and vinegar.) Also, I suffer from Anxiety, which has gotten increasingly worse by the day. I'm new to this forum. Any suggestions, inspiration, friends, tips are welcome. My starting weight before cutting out all liquids but water was 326. Today I weighed in at 302. This keeps me motivated, but noticed the scale had bounced backwards just a little this morning. I haven't been able to break 300 in 3+ years. Any comments are greatly appreciated. My family supports me, immensely which I thank God for because without that reinforcement - I don't know if I would be as far as I am today, but I have not told my job the reason for taking time off or any of my friends. I also have predisposing co-morbidities such as elevated lipids, HTN, and PCOS (poly cystic ovarian syndrome). Every MD that I have spoke with has encouraged me to do it. I'm still TERRIFIED.

I think you are such an inspiration sticking to your pre-op diet so well! I didn't do nearly as well as you, and I'm so scared my surgeon is going to not do my surgery.

It is totally normal to be freaking out! My surgery is on Tuesday and I had a total mental breakdown yesterday, and all weekend I'm changing my mind every ten seconds and crying. I just keep thinking about all the people who had the surgery and say it was the best thing they've ever done and don't regret it for one second. I keep holding on to that.

Just keep taking deep breaths and visualize your future in your new healthy body. Sending yout lots of support!

Thanks so much! Good luck with the surgery! Praying all goes well! Believe me - sticking to this pre-op diet has been the HARDEST thing ever. Every day, I plot to call & cancel.

You are going to be fine, please don't back out now. I won't lie, it won't be the easiest thing you will do, but you will be sooooo much better for it once you get past the first couple of months. You have such a long and wonderful life to live. You should be enjoying life and not fighting obesity. You've come this far, you've done a lot to get here, stopping now, is no different than what you probably have done many times in your life. This surgery gives you a lot, it will give you back your life and your freedom. That, to me is so worth it. Good luck, come back and let us know how it goes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
