scared of failure...

Recommended Posts

I was just sleeved on 1/21/13 and though I'm doing wonderful ( down 25 pounds) I am so afraid that I did all of this to myself and what if I still fail to keep this weight off? I know I'm being paranoid but I just can't help it!!! Am I the only one who feels this way?

I feel exactly the same way! People are most successful when they get support though, so stay on here or join a local support group and just keep monitoring your progress.

I am nervous too but I look at all the success stories on here and know it can happen to me too. The sleeve will keep us in check with the amount of food we consume we just have to be careful what food we put in there. Avoid temptation and keep the bad food out of the house, to make food more exciting look at some of the great recipes all over the web. WE CAN DO THIS!

I think... No I know all of us have moments of self doubt when it comes to this step that we have taken. I mean how many of us failed over and over again!

What I think about it now is different from what I thought just a couple of months ago. But I do know having this surgery has helped me not to over eat and it has given me the time to contemplate the reasons why I was reaching for food (because it wasn't hunger). So it will help me make good choices in the short term and I am learning to trust myself to continue those good choices in the future..

Thank you Julianna! I know I am just being paranoid but I've tried everything to lose this weight and it always starts out great, losing weight but then for one reason or another I fail and gain all the weight back plus 10.. but I told myself the sleeve was my final option and I will not fail! We will not fail!!!

Laura-ven, you hit the nail right on the head! I know it's just nerves and I'll be fine but there's always that nagging "what if's" glad to know I'm not the only one... so glad I joined this forum. You ladies made me feel 100 times better. .

I must say also, that I feel like nowadays my WHOLE day is devoted to the timing, measuring,

Recording of food and getting my needed liquids.

So I really don't have the time to over eat anymore. As a matter of fact eating can be a chore sometimes :P

I am recently sleeved and have the same sentiments. But then the logical part of me starts speaking and there is no way I could not succeed consuming only 300-400 calories a day... Before I would consume double that in one meal.

Diets have failed us, so it's not unusual to have those same thoughts from prior experiences to creep up. But remember we are not on yet another diet but under went major surgery which forces us to succeed!

You will succeed, I will succeed, and we will succeed because the alternative is not that we will not lose but make ourselves terribly sick!

Best wishes to you and remember that you are already successful because you have taken the first major step in getting your health in order.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
