Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

I'll be honest, I remember seeing that and thinking WTF? My first attempt at 20 minutes I intentionally ran 10 minutes then walked for 30 seconds, then did 10 more. Second attempt I ran 15 minutes, walked 30 seconds, then ran the other 5. Third attempt I finally made it. But I just couldn't see making that huge jump so I broke it up in stages and it worked well for me.

Yeah I guess that could work. I'm just gonna power through it. Eye of the tiger man, eye of the tiger

OMG' date=' the 20 minute run was the toughest! I've done the C25K program 3 times (due to injuries and surgery) and each time I had to repeat that day 3 times before I could make it through it. Just don't give up and slow your pace if you have to.

I finished the program and am adding a minute every run. I'm up to 34 minutes of running and feel like I could probably do more, but don't want to add mileage too fast and get injured (had that happen way to many times!). Planning on starting Bridge to 10K in a few weeks. First day is run 10 min walk 1 min repeat 4 times.

Anyone else planning on progressing to 10K after you're done with the 5K program?[/quote']

I am moving on to 10k. I'm going to work on my speed so taking it "slow" though. ;-)

I did it! I ran for 5 minutes at a time! I'm so proud' date=' I was really thinking there was no way I could do it... Must be that fat girl in my brain...I showed her! Actually I'm still on the treadmill I was so excited to share, thanks everyone![/quote']

Quit posting and run.

I don't worry too much about speed at this point. When I try to run faster I have a tendency to lengthen my stride and then my knee starts hurting. When I shorten my stride, no knee pain. I ran for 35 minutes straight today. It's weird how at this point I feel like I can keep running at the end without any problem. I'm not out of breath and my legs don't hurt. I know though that adding distance too quickly is how injuries happen, so I'm just enjoying being able to go my planned time.

I've been scouting out 10Ks for December. I think I found one close by on Dec 8. That will give me enough time to get my distance up to a 10K.

I like your plan. I made it today running 25 min. I decided to keep my pace at 4.2 until I'm running more distance too. Sound advice. Thnx!!

Awesome job! I'm just a little bit faster at 4.6, but I'm 5'11" so I probably have a longer stride. All of my previous 5Ks were at 4.2.

I've read somewhere that you shouldn't worry about speed until you've been running for a year. I'm just happy at this point to be running without pain.

That is wonderful! I love how every week with the C25K program you get to Celebrate new accomplishments. You're running 5 min this week and in 2-3 weeks you'll be running 10 min without stopping. It really works. You just have to stick with it and don't give up.

Ran for 36 min straight today. Can't believe that just 2 months ago I was only able to run 3 minutes! :) I was ready to quit a month ago because of knee pain, but thankfully I read something the experts around here (thanks BTB!) had posted that made me rethink my stride length.

Major happy dancing today in my new size medium (!!!) sparkle skirt.... I'm finally in the 180s! I've been in the 190s for a month and a half. Only 14 more pounds until I hit goal weight!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
