Got denied

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Well I got denied today for the lap band:( . My Ins wants me to go through a 6 month "telephone coaching" weight loss program. Has anyone ever had to do this 6 month thingy? I know in my heart that this will not work for me but I will give it a try. I hate to have to wait 6 months..I am sooo ready now!!

Janiee, I have to tell you that I too was initially denied and told I need the 6mo. supervision. In that time I GAINED weight. I don't know where you're at with your BMI, but I totally regret waiting. In the many months of waiting I gained new stretch marks and felt so bad about myself, continuing to fail at yet another diet.

That's just my experience. I know that paying for surgery on your own is no picnic and I really thought by giving up 6months I would save a lot of money. Not the case, I was denied despite my efforts. :) Some people were successful on the 6 mo. supervision. Me...not so much.

Best of luck to you! Keep us posted of your progress

Thanks so much for the reply:)

You were denied even after you went through the 6 month program? Why? If I may ask? Did you happen to have Pacificare HMO?

I am finishing my 6 months supervised diet this month. I was crushed when I found out I had to do it, but it has really gone by fast. I have really not lost much...maybe 10lbs thru the whole time. I really didnt put much effort into it....just tried to sail thru it to get it over with quickly. Im hoping that these past 6 months will pay off in the long run and get my approval. I cant imagine a denial now after going thru this since June.

Good luck!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
