Anyone use a Bariatric diners card?

Recommended Posts

I've heard of a Bariatric diners card where you show it to the place you will be eating at and some of those places will let you order smaller portions or kid sized meals. If you haven't seen it or heard of it I will include a link where I just found one. But for those of you that have...

Did you get it from your surgeon?

Do a lot of places accept it?

I have not gotten one yet, but my nutritionist said that the doctor will give me one.

I got one from my surgeon but haven't felt like leaving the house yet. He said most places will honor it. The resturants aren't losing money, they are just serving a smaller portion for us.

I received one, but usually just taking to a server/manager and they let you order whatever. I do carry it with me all the time. It had my doctors name on it.

I was given mine with the papers that I was sent home with at the hospital. I have never used it. My husband and I usually share or I order an appetizer. Most children's meals are not what I would eat.

We did go to one place and they had a buffet and my husband would have loved to eat it but they would let me order a child's meal but not the child's buffet. I could have only ate a piece of meat but I just got angry and left. As I think about it now, I guess someone could print a card off the Internet and eat like crazy.

I got one, but haven't used it yet. I generally just share with one of my kids or order regular and bring the leftovers home. Between the kids and the pigs, someone will eat it :)

I used to try to just order the smallest tolerable item on the menu, until we went to ihop and I wanted some pancakes and an omelette ... I cheaped out and just got plain eggs and pancakes and saved 2 bucks, but was so disappointed with boring eggs (i dislike eggs to begin with, but they are tolerable with cheese an meat in them) I vowed not to sacrifice my food enjoyment for price or sleeve. (Well, within reason, omelette or plain eggs would still be Atkins friendly.. The pancakes I just ate a couple bites of either way)

Anyway, point behind this was I have a card, but I won't sacrifice my food just to get fried nuggets from the kid's menu or gross food just to save a buck. :)

You know, you start paying attention to the kids meals more now with the sleeve. I have never let my kids eat a kids meal. If it was some type of nugget and fries. I would always ask the server to put vegetables on the plate. Some times the server would get a bit snarky about it, but I would just mention that I didn't think letting an $60-$80 dollar tab + their tip go out the door over a hand full of fries. I typically split something with the wife, bring home the leftovers or just get an app.

My dr has them I think I just have to ask for it. But i either bring leftovers home or I order something my daughter would like and we share. At 7 she loves to eat and adult meal and lives to share so it works for us.

At my 3 week post-surgery follow-up we were given the ok to progress to soft foods and they gave us cards that said the following:

"The individual bearing this card has had special surgery for the reduction of the size of their stomach. Please allow the bearer to order a small portion at a reduced price or order from the child's menu. Thank you for your consideration."

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
