still struggling to get in protein after 3 mths

Recommended Posts

For the last few days I have been logging my food into MFP and realized that I'm not even coming close to 90g of Protein in a day. I'm lucky to get 30. I got Protein Shake samples and I can't even drink a whole one and am so full after half. Should I be concerned? I've been losing fairly quickly until the last two weeks. I gained 2 lbs and haven't lost since.

How are you mixing your Protein shakes? I've found that using a Blender Bottle makes the consistency more like chocolate milk instead of something super thick (when made in an actual blender). I do think you should be VERY concerned. You NEED to get in the Protein. Protein helps the body heal, etc. and helps prevent some of the hair loss.

I still have a shake every morning for Breakfast. Sometimes I add in a scoop of Isopure unflavored protein to make a mega shake -- around 50 grams of protein.

Do you like pudding? Make some sugar free nonfat pudding and add in a scoop of chocolate Protein powder.

My favorite Protein Powder is Syntrax nectar Chocolate Truffle made with light soy milk for a total of 30 grams of protein. This shake does not get thick if it sits around a little, again made in a Blender Bottle. Tastes just like chocolate milk to me, maybe yummier. ;-) The vanilla Torte and strawberry Mousse flavors are pretty good too.. and still the thinner consistency.

I haven't been able to stomach the shakes since surgery, however, I ordered and received samples and tried one this morning. It was extremely thick so I went and purchased a Blender Bottle, but I haven't used it yet. I mixed it with skim milk. I do like pudding, but I can only eat about 1/3 of a cup before getting full. I also am super de dooper bad about drinking. I have only been drinking about 8-12oz of sweet tea a day! Yikes! I need to get it together as far as that's concerned for sure.

You could try switching to the diet sweet tea. McDonald's makes a good one and it is cheap. What shakes have you tried?

I too couldn't even look at the shakes post surgery, my dr recommend Protein Bars. I have a pure Protein Bar (20 grams of Protein and 180 calories) for Breakfast every morning. Maybe they are worth a try...

I have tried EAS, Muscle Milk, one from Wal-Mart (dont know the name), Gatorade, Chike, and the samples I ordered are from Vitalady.com. I liked the one I had this morning, but it was so thick I could only drink 2oz.

I'm going to try the Protein bars. What brand are they and where did you get them?

As far as the sweet tea goes, I just need to get Crystal Light tea. It bothers my stomach that's why I've been drinking regular the last few weeks.

For the shakes, try Syntrax nectar product line. There are many fruity flavors, but I happen to like the "sweets." The best including Cookies and creme, chocolate truffle, etc. I tend to recommend the Syntrax matrix product line as well because it is a really top notch Protein and tastes good. Mixes well too. That's important to me as I mix these with m blender cups. They are not so thick. However, I like them thick so tend to add gelled chia seeds.

I am 3.5 months out and for snack i am eating beef jerky... You should get close as long as you make sure that everything you eat contains Protein. The qty we eat is so small that is only way you will be able to get close. of course, i didnt know 90 was the target #.. I am trying to get 60 - 75 a day... Guess I need to increase my intake.

I had the same problem with shakes. I started using Unjury chocolate splendor mix with 8 oz almond milk. I can tolerate it. Also I can tolerate advocare berry Meal Replacement shake. Yes we can have the advocare ones. I learned about them from nutritionist, I had never heard of them. Advocare you mix with Water but you can make it thinner. Unjury is like chocolate milk. Unjury also has a chicken broth that is good. You can get a sample pkg. from unjruy. I am almost 4 months post op and can only tolerate these. Hope that helps you.

I did get some of the Syntrax nectar. I haven't tried them yet. I just mixed half of a serving of one of the samples I got with 8 oz of 2% milk and got it all down and I liked it.

I eat beef Jerky too. But, like everything else it's very little. Maybe one piece at a time sometimes not even the whole piece. For Breakfast I usually do an egg with a piece of turkey bacon and cheese and can get down about half of that.

I haven't been sleeved yet, but when I went to the consultation appointment the doctor told me I would need 50 grams of Protein per day. I am 5'4''... I guess different doctors recommend different amounts.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
