If you need to go back and receive fluids intravenously you should. When I got home I had VERY good luck with hot tea. Anything hot, I even warmed up juice.< /p>

My first few days, I was not eating or drinking anything. My stomach hurt too much. I was probably taking in less than 10oz. a day. But it got easier towards the end of the week. It will get better. Hang in there.

I got dehydrated the first day I came home because I wasn't drinking enough and ended up in the ER receiving fluids intravenously. Seriously, if you can't drink enough, you need to go to the ER or an urgent care clinic.

absolutely get to the ER if you are not drinking.. I didnt have any issues.. seems like all I wanted to do was drink something.. my mouth was very dry..and it gets that way a lot during the day.. but I just keep sipping Water and making sure I stay hydrated.. it will get easier.. the first few days are hard.. getting used to everything.. hang in there.. good things to come.. :) good luck.

The first two days are the worst. Coming off anestisia was hard for me but leaps and bounds better day three forward. Warm liquids were helpful for me. Although cold is better for others so see what feels best for you. Very small sips at first! If you still can not take in anything I would go back to the hospital so they can administer an iv.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
